I haven't been able to get any vomit this release. Not any I can pick up, at any rate.
Swans, too. Swans are complete bastards.

Most recent patch to Aurora added a feature which rearranges stuff so windows can fit on smaller displays, but i havnt tried it out that feature yet.

Problem is it only "rearranges" it down to 1024x768 so unless you have a program or a driver that allows you to pretend that you have a bigger resolution netbooks are out of the question. And even if you do it's still pretty frustrating to use like that.

de5me7: I don't have a link but you could use google. Regardless thanks for pointing out hearts of iron. I quite like the medieval theme over more recent-style 4X games but the game itself looks pretty fun. And I have your problem too: I play 4X games in short spurts. A long game can get pretty ridiculous if you don't have a lot of time to play.

OP, if you love paradox style games so far, definitely go and get Hearts of Iron 2. I'd recommend Arsenal of Democracy because it's basically all the expansions rolled up into one offshoot, so it's probably cheaper, or get Doomsday. Hearts of Iron 2 is loads better than the third one, while Eu3 is actually significantly better in most regards than Eu2, with some 5 expansions and none of them worthless.
Victoria tends to be very micromanagement heavy, but I'd recommend getting the first one cheap to see if you like it, definitely with the expansion.

I think its just had some teething problems, personally not my favorite game but I've been known to have fun with it.

My main issue is that whole chain of command system, it just makes everything a pain in the ass. >.>

Yeah, if you like CK and EU, then you should definitely try out HoI and Victoria. I think there is even an option of transferring saves from CK to EU to Victoria, if you want a truly epic experience.

I'm also with Tarcius on the question of HoI 3 being better/worse than HoI2. I liked most changes they've made, especially the HQ-command system, however imperfect it might be.
Just keep in mind that the third one uses the same graphics engine as EU3, so if one doesn't work on your machine, then your choice is already made with the other.

As for other 4x games - what kind of games do you have in mind exactly? What's the desirable 'mainstream' in your opinion, and what changes the market has been suggesting/imposing that you don't like?

You could get EU3: Chronicles, but that has Divine Wind and Magna Mundi probably won't be adapted to it. Unless you get it on Gamersgate, which might give you each as a separate download. I believe they did for EU3 Complete. MEIOU is adapted to it, though, and that's beautiful and has an improved map and some gameplay changes, if you go for stuff like that and have a good computer.

Blarg I didn't know EU3 had so many expansions  :o my bro has access to a lot of games and computer resources so while I'm the geek he's the rich-ish CPU hoarder. I'll have to get him to hook me up.

Anyway, one of the few things I didn't like about EU2 was the way that the map and stuff depended on how you started your game and played it, but the "town management" and stuff where you bought and upgraded buildings and troops and such got very stale after a while as it seemed to be pretty similar between sessions. Did that change at all with EU3?

Regardless I'm definitely getting the demo of Victoria after hearing it's really micromanaging, as has been stated I go crazy for the micromanaging 4X games. Thanks for opening me up to some new games, guys. None of these looked very appealing on Wikipedia or whatever but it's good to hear some player opinions.

EU3: Chronicles should have all of the games in the series. I'd grab it on Gamersgate if you can, because of what I just said.

Not sure if it's out yet, though.

You could try Victoria 2, but I really recommend Victoria 1 until a few things in Victoria 2 get ironed out, like the extremely unrealistic troop levels available to certain countries. Especially certain countries that control India.

Can never get enough of Crusader Kings. Hearts of Iron 3; Semper Fi is vastly improved over the original, and they're making a second expansion for it.

Would the X series be counted as 4x?
I believe they are more of a space sim than 4x but still they do satisfy those needs.

Only thing in common is the letter X there.

Civilization and Master of Orion were the original 4X games; most faithfully, a 4X is turn-based strategy focused on domination of the world or space through ownership of resources; and I'd say the line definitely has to be drawn, at the very least, in games when you control one unit like the X series. Pretty sure the endgame of the X series isn't even galactic domination, in fact, but didn't play it for long.

Sorry in advance if my search skills are lacking, but could someone link me to Aurora, when I search for it all I ever get are bad flash games.
