Wait. If you said that they can't dodge, then how does speed effect if they get hit?
If a ship is moving fast in one direction, Fire Controls can't track fast enough and missiles can't turn fast enough, leading to missing. At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works.
Guess whats that called?

"Dodging."

Except that they don't actually dodge. They move in one direction, they don't dodge.

a : to move to and fro or from place to place usually in an irregular course <dodged through the crowd>
b : to make a sudden movement in a new direction (as to evade a blow) <dodged behind the door>

a : to evade by a sudden or repeated shift of position <dodge tacklers>

Edit: Oh.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I do have an idea how the game works, sir. Just not the technical oh-my-god-this-is-totally-not-absolutely-vital bits.

This is kinda why point defense is important, although if you really want, we can strap you to a missile. Actually, can you attach lasers to missiles? I know you can fit missiles onto missiles.

No, but you can have missiles that explode into lasers, which are made to avoid Final Defence PD or Gauss, they're called X-ray warheads. you need to have researched Soft X-ray Lasers first, though.

I propose that our future Mainline Battleships should be very maneuverable and packed with as many weapons as possible while mantaining maneuverablity.
I would like to see this happen.  I was just trying to, uh, calibrate expectations a little bit?  We'd end up with a very mobile fleet of glass cannons, since one of the easiest ways to maintain maneuverability is to sacrifice armor and redundant systems.  Mineral shortages might be an issue if there's no good gallacite deposits though.  And, uh, since a fleet designed like that would almost have to be a missile fleet.

armor is always more effective than glass cannons that break.

Unless the ships are extremely fast and can stay out of range of enemy missiles.

It takes a lot of tech to be fast enough to stay out of range and still carry the equipment required to kill the enemy.

Just like it takes a lot of tech to be able to put enough armor on your ships to empty your enemy's Magazines and not blow up without making them as slow as slugs or without weapons.
