Hermit without Insanity
« on: March 23, 2011, 07:10:21 am »

Tried hermit challenge.  Locked 6 dwarves in a 1x1 room.  They died.  Last dwarf went insane.

What do?

Give him time. Or you can try Runesmith, it will let you boost his happiness level.

Take the less social of your dwarves as hermit.

Or embark with plenty of chicks and make a chick cascade (see dog cascade thread) on top of him to insensibilize him to death.

Time for what?  He's insane!
time for next wave to come
then select one of migrants to be hermit the second.

btw, now that you can order your military to kill other dwarves your hermit can become the true enemy of the dwarven peaple and slay the incoming migrants and caravans  by his own hand!

Next time you try this, give your hermit the most lavish surroundings feasible, and then kill the other dwarves one at a time so he doesn't suffer from all their deaths at once.

And coffins. Don't forget that.

I got them in a 1x1 pit with a locked hatch cover using burrows.  I did this quickly, he only had two friends, and having a table, bed, and chair available made him survive.  This is still lame, as I now have a small outpost instead of a real "hermit" type.  I may retry using some form of Runesmith or such.

Aren't butchers typically insensitive to death?  Perhaps embark with a bunch of cheap animals and kill butcher them immediately?

No, butchering doesn't cause this.  Only violent death.

Does falling a Pit o'Doom counts towards complacency by, for example, dropping naked nobles down a 50-Z shaft?

I mean, without the dwarves acctually seeing it?

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

If they don't see it, why would it matter?
