Terribad Router
« on: March 23, 2011, 01:05:24 am »

Howdy, folks. I've had weird, patchy service on my wireless network for some years now, caused by, unsurprisingly, my router. It's a Cisco WRT54G, which I'm fairly sure we got as a default router from our ISP.

The problem is basically that the router doesn't always pick up the internet signal; it has always made a network, but connecting it to the Internet is where it falls down. The fix seems to change every so often, but recently it's been unscrewing the coaxial cable out of the back of the modem (!) and then rescrewing it.

My questions are thus:

Is it possible to fix this router?

a)If yes, how?

b) If no, what kind of router should I get as a replacement?

Are you sure it's not the router's DNS?

Check the network diagnostic from a corded computer.

Sorry, I'm not sure how to do that.

EDIT:

Yep, that's it. Most routers nowadays can fix it on it's own.

This one can't, apparently.

I've ordered a new router from PC Case Gear, so that should hopefully be here in a few days.

What sort?

I can't remember the model, but it's the $35 one.
