Dark Fortress
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:26:19 pm »

So there was a dark goblin fortress near where I started out, and after beating up a couple bandits I decided to go out and see what I could do there. However, when I got to where it was marked on my map [which names two, but I only see one symbol.] there was no fortress. I get randomly attacked by groups of goblins, but no fortress to conquer. Is the entrance hidden? Is it.. invisible? D:

This question gets asked like five times a day. Somebody needs to get the answer stickied.

You act like it kills you for someone to ask a question here, I've seen you complain about the same thing multiple times now. Sometimes people don't know what words would get the right response in a search on a forum site. Sometimes, like in this situation, searching words like "goblin,"dark," and "fortress" are going to get you 34 pages of possible threads because of how INSANELY PROLIFIC those three words are in a fantasy game about goblins, elves, dwarves, and fortresses. The search difficulty is further exacerbated by the fact that one of those searched words is in the name of the game the forum was made for.

No one put a gun to your head and made you read the OP's question. Your empty response is arguably of less worth than his question.

On the flipside, this thread was the tenth result on a search for "dark fortress", and the thread that Deon linked to isn't even halfway down the (non-search) page.

When I did the same search earlier, I was getting bug-eyed from all the yellow-highlighted words. Also, the OP might not have seen the post below this because he/she was looking for "dark fortress" in particular. I suffer from the same issue sometimes when I'm searching for something. Tunnel vision sucks.

My original point though, is that she's/he's not hurting anyone by asking. There's any number of reasons for why there was no search done, or that nothing was found. A simple thread made to ask a question isn't worth complaining about. Doing so makes the person seem snide and hypocritical. The calling people "kiddos" in the other thread was just icing on the cake of elitism.

I'm a little confused  ??? this is the first time IIRC that I have brought the fact that this gets asked a lot up. In other threads I just give the answer but the answer had already been given here. I think you've got me confused with someone else.

Regardless, you're overreacting. I didn't tell anyone to use search. I didn't say his question was invalid -- it's a valid question and in his position I would have asked it too. I wasn't even complaining about the question being asked, The only thing I said was that someone needs to make a sticky about the answer to this so that people don't have to be all confused and frustrated with why old towns are gone. I wasn't talking to the OP at all, or being elitist, or calling him a "kiddo" or whatever.

e: Just to be clear, my post really did not have to do with this thread but rather the fact that people who create threads like this would have a less frustrating time if there was a sticky on top of the board. SpiralDementia, I'm sorry if saying this offended you or something, my post was not directed at you.
