I had a farm built over two strips of undug walls and when I abandoned the fort and reclaimed it, the walls were not there and the farm was the size it would have been if they were never there. but the walls were still there, just underneath the farm.

the walls used to be the same as the walls on the other side of the river before I abandoned.

I think I saw this reported before, but I could not find anything when I searched

actually, the farm is now even on squares that do not have any mud.

Bizarre...  this might have the same root cause as some other reclaim problems.  I'll have to investigate when I can.
