So yeah. I'm mostly a metalhead, but I'll listen to anything once. Any suggestions, Bay12?

What's this? A bump? Eyep. However, I'm looking for electronica, mostly on a whim. I'm going to post links to some electronica I've found that I've liked in the hope there's more out there like it. I'll also be updating the OP shortly.

It's not much, but hopefully it's a start.

What types of metal do you usually listen to?

Mostly power, progressive and death, some symphonic and folk.

I gotta start with King Crimson, especially since you like Prog Metal.
One More Red Nightmare
Fracture
Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part II
If you like that I would probably start with the albums Red and Starless and Bible Black which are their heaviest albums.

If you like guitar virtuosity, Bert Jansch lays down some pretty altruistic riffs. He's a folk fingerstyle guitarist.
The Pentangle - Bells
Jansch - Alice's Wonderland

King Crimson sound familiar. 21st Century Schizoid Man, right?

EDIT: Yeah, that was them.

DOUBLE EDIT: I'm not actually listening to anything yet, as I'm still at work. It'll be ~3:30 - 4:00 pm until I can.

Try the Cruxshadows. They're kinda their own genre, but I really like all the allusions in their work.

Go listen to some Kansas for a change of pace, go progressive rock instead of progressive metal?

I have to wonder what the heck folk metal sounds like. Speed banjo? Electric mandolin?

In which case, duh...Jethro Tull.

Folk metal is mostly metal with folk elements (shockingly enough). I've heard speed banjo, though. Tull's not really something I'm fond of, although Aqualung is my only experience to date.

You might be interested in Hayseed Dixie, then. It's somehwat of a schtick band (they do primarily AC/DC and other hard rock/metal covers in bluegrass style), but the technical chops are there. They've been referred to as "grasscore".

Here's a clip of them covering Ace of Spades.

Okay, so far: I like Crimson King, Bert Jansch is pretty impressive, Cruxshadows are... weird.

EDIT: I think I like Cruxshadows.

I've started listening to Blind Guardian recently, if you've never heard them, listen to a few of their songs, they are great. Also, if you like you're music fast, give Dragonforce a try.

What bands do you listen to? I'm very bad at catugorising metal so some examples of what you like would help.

Love them both.

Not all of that lot are metal, but it's basically everything I listen to, minus a few I haven't bought yet.

Hmm. Looking at that list you might also like The Mars Volta. Their stuff is highly rhythmic, somewhere between math rock, prog, and post-hardcore.

Their lyrics are pretty much nonsense though.
