In windows XP, if you hold down the shift key for too long (over 2 or 3 seconds), it asks you if you want to activate stickykeys. I don't know what its supposed to do, but whether you accept or decline, it screws up your computer in several ways. Fun!

Ah, that stuff, disable it then. IIRC, it tells you how to do that in that popup.

Rather than shift, use control. Opens in a new tab instead of a new window.

Also, stickykeys can be disabled. Next time it pops up, click settings, then click settings for it in the dialog that opens after. Uncheck "use shortcut".

While you are there, note mousekeys: It lets you use the numpad to move the cursor. Not very useful, except that it gives you pixel-perfect movement, which is very useful if you want to get a window size exact. (left alt, left shift, and numlock. Use again to disable)

guys, why don't you use, you know... the middle mouse button?  That's what all browsers use to open links in a new tab.  If you hold shift you ALSO jump into that tab.  Else, it just appears next to your current tab.

About:config is also interesting for any customization you think you might like.  You probably CAN.

Anyway, what firefox is still missing without a specific addon is:  Multiple profiles, improved profile sync, extensions sync.  It's planned for 5, I guess. 

From now on, they won't do little numbers.  Small changes will come with 5,6,7 and it all will come soon.  Why?  PR.  Stupid people think that big numbers are better... I think that will go back to normal once Opera or Chrome hit 28 or something...

Also... I miss the "It's XXXX birthday today" feature in bay12forums...

my bad then.  That's a nice default feature to avoid wasting memory.  Anyway, if you still want to duplicate that page in another tab just click the refresh button (in the browser) or the index (link in the page) with your middle mouse button

And the problem is I'm using it for work, and working efficiently requires me to have several windows open with copies of this page. At least its a decent trick to know, it does make it a lot easier. Still kind of annoying in a lot of ways. And I've yet to find a single way in which 4 is an improvement, so despite my high hopes, I'm probably going to downgrade soon.

Yeah, I mentioned this, but it's REALLY touchy and doesn't do so consistently for me. Some times it works, sometimes it doesn't. Mostly it doesn't. It has one of several behaviours depending on how many times you press it and exactly how long you press it and how long you wait before pressing the next button and bleeegh.

In order to do it right, I have to:
Type most of the address (but not all of it)
Press down, then hold alt for at least a second
Let go of alt before hitting enter
And then you can open the page

Not letting go of alt opens it in a new tab

Not holding alt long enough SAYS it will open it in the same page, but doesn't.

Its kind of... dumb.

Unfortunately loading the page in a new window by middle clicking the reload bar leaves... uh... pieces behind. I don't understand why that would be the case, but it drops some of the frames and makes the drop downs in the new page stop working

Right click in empty space on the menu bar area and uncheck menu bar shold work, since its the reverse of getting the menu bar.

Hey, guys having problem with Switch to Tab, guess what:

1: Download https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/switch-to-tab-blacklist/
2: Go to about:config (type it into your URL bar).
3: Avoid getting crazy playing around with Firefox's settings and search "extension.switchToTabBlacklist.blacklist".
4: Add the value [".*"] (brackets included).
5: NO MORE EVIL IN THIS WORLD.
