OHNOES!

Apparently, status bar IS GONE! ;_;

But fret not, as here is this nice add-on, which gives you a customizable status bar instead of that annoying pop-up!

Meh I'll stick with FF3.5 Don't feel like upgrading for a good long while, maybe in like a year or two I'll be like "Eh fuck it" and upgrade, but not this moment.

Why on earth would they get rid of the status bar?  How do they expect you to know where a link goes before you click on it?

Instead, they have a popup that says where the link goes. Its also like a fun mini-game feature, because where it appears is context related, so it gives you the joy of hunting down where that rascal appeared THIS time.

ctrl-shift-c? I don't know if firefox has it by default, but the firebug extension certainly does.

because it STILL shows when you HOVER over it.

FYI, You can have BOTH Firefox 4 AND older versions.  That's how I managed since Beta 4 when most addons were incompatible or somewhat buggy betas.  That way you can test it instead of going on hearsay.

Regarding the forced updates... I'm not altogether sure that you can opt out but, if you can't, then it's acting just like Opera and Chrome who lead the way in forcing updates automatically.  That can be somewhat troubling for the user but it's great news for the developer.  No program should force you to update when you don't want though, sometimes you just need to get something done.

You might want to look at some demos/experiments with htm5, CSS3 and WebGl now so that you truly appreciate the benefits of browser with that kind of support.

https://demos.mozilla.org/en-US/
http://www.chromeexperiments.com/
http://developer.apple.com/safaridemos/ (I'm not sure if they're still spoofing by browser but chrome should work for all of them)

It appears on the right left unless you're using the Ctrl-F search bar.

I'm not managing to replicate the exact hack I did at home with keyword.url to be able to use the url to search single words.  You can always do "+ word" but it's not exactly the same.

Actually, minus anything else, it appears on the left. It appears on the right when you USE the ctrl-f bar, at least for me.

I frequently have a lot going on at the bottom of the screen though, the find bar one piece of it, and it switches left and right depending on what I have open. It's also really disorienting to have it appear ABOVE various things like firebug, since that means its vertical position is constantly changing as well.

If it only ever appeared in the bottom left, I'd be happy as hell, but... meh. I suppose its a nuisance at worse, annoying as it is.

See, this is all I want from my browser.  I want updated browser tech, but I don't want them to keep changing the UI every time.  UI's are great when they are consistent and I don't need to relearn it every time.  And firefox definitely isn't the only one guilty of this.  The Windows OS itself is probably one of the biggest offenders of changing the UI with every version and it drives me nuts.

Mozilla also does this with Thunderbird and it annoys the heck out of me there too.  My thunderbird client at home looks completely different than my thunderbird client at work for no reason other than being a different version.

Just tried it out now. Restored tabs below the search bar as well as the old menu buttons along the top, but the latter look rather awkward now since instead of having a proper top-bar they're just sort of floating weirdly. Also not really liking the missing status bar along the bottom of the page. But I think I'll keep at it for a day or two and see if it grows on me (Chrome didn't).

It's grown on me so far. Aside from the stupidity of a moving status popup, its smooth and logical(so far)  and does maximum screen space.

*Reads first page*
*Looks at google chrome browser*

Press ctrl + shift + c. If nothing happens, your browser annoys me, as then tends to be a common function for me.
Firebug activated. Is it the mysterious function?

I like the new Firefox version.  It does seem to run better and scrolling through webpages doesn't lag so hard.  That upper-left 'Firefox' button reminds me of Opera so much though, hehehe.

Are you referring to the one that appears if you hide the menu bar?
