Mason won't use stone.
« on: March 21, 2011, 08:19:01 pm »

My mason is ankle deep in obsidian stone, all around the workshop, everywhere, and he prefers to not work at all instead of working with the obsidian. It is not on the economic list, and it is not forbidden. In fact, I made all other stone forbidden.

What is wrong here?

Obsidian is a bit buggy currently. Unforbid at least one other stone and then try again, maybe it works.

Do you have a layer of it or an obsidian farm?

If you have a layer, most odd behavior indeed.

If you have an obsidian farm, go into the raws and remove obsidian's [MAX_EDGE:20000] tag. That will cause it to show up on the stone list and be enabled (it is disabled by default).

Strange, While it is an option for constructions, my mason still refuses to use it in the mason workshop

Is it because obsidian has a value to it, and is not considered worthless stone?

Flux has a value, and you can use that just fine.

Did you forbid the stone your mason's workshop is made out of?

^ This sounds about right, assuming nothing buggy is going on. If you make the workshop out of blocks (or wood) you can get around this without having to unforbid any stone.

Or just press "t" and unforbid the material used to make the workshop, that should work as well.

This is a masterful image of your FPS and the HFS. The HFS is committing a depraved act on your FPS.

It's caused by obsidian.  Obsidian has known bugs because it's a blade material.  Refer to the link in my previous post.

There is also the possibility that the "available" obsidian is already tagged to be moved to a stockpile by another dwarf.

E.g., if you have a block of mudstone you wish to make into a rock craft sitting in the craft workshop, but a hauler is tasked to move it to a stone stockpile before the craftdwarf claims it for that rock toy boat/miniforge/mug he's planning to make, he will use something else or do nothing if no other materials are available.  once the stone reaches the stockpile it should be usable (if that is what is happening here, which it doesn't sound like).

That only happens if every stone is in use.  If there's any loose stone anywhere, the mason will grab it.
