Item in dining room demand unfulfilled 33b

So my mayor wants 'item in dining room'.

I've put a bag, chest, box, cabinet, and a statue in there, and it's still red.

It should be something like 'iron item in dining room' or 'talc item in dining room' but because of a bug the material name isn't displayed.

Try looking at your mayor's profile and seeing what materials he likes.  It could be one of those.

The bug is still there in 40d.  I'll have to try building something in the mayor's material preferences.  I've already tried sticking a random floodgate in, since he likes those (for whatever reason), to no effect.

Yeah. As others are posting, this happens when your mayor likes a material that isn't currently 'in' the game yet. Coral, pearl, horn, ivory, etc. Fortunately, failure to meet such a demand has a very, very minor effect on the mayor and won't cause him to tantrum unless he's already pissed by other stuff.

You have a legendary dining room, don't you? :)

Actually ivory is in the game. The latest caravan brought me elephant ivory bracelet or something like that, don't remember which type of craft it was.

I don't know if that's in yet, but caravans DO bring some oddly decorated stuff.  You can't decorate with rock, artifacts notwithstanding, but apparently the game allows other civs to do it.

The other civs can have stuff made of the materials, but you can't ever get the raw material to make your own stuff.
