Early Winter 1006
So it would appear to me that certain persons among the raiders need a swift kick in the ass. I asked them to cut trade to the entire United Provinces and instead all they did was block random passing merchants. Some days I wonder why we're all out here when those that claim to want the freedom that we're fighting for can't seem to follow simple directions. None of it truly mattered in the end anyway. From what I hear, Roberts' fleet isn't blockading Brentian seas anymore and no one knows where Roberts went at all. I was just finally starting to get some answers to my questions for him when the last courier I sent returned, empty-handed, claiming he couldn't find Roberts anywhere. I guess we'll see...
I cut a deal with a rather unliked fellow and his comrades to defend what was left of Ariani holdings from the Free Tempests invading. Yeah sure. Fredrick gave us the startup capital to fund this little excursion into freedom we so desperately wanted, but we'll never succeed if we don't take every job offered us. So sure, I cut a deal with the Ariani. The problem was mostly that this past season wasn't kind to my men - we had so many wounded and out of commission. The funds they provided just recently arrived as well. Finding skilled hands in combat needing the cold hard coins we offer isn't usually too hard, but we still require the coins to hire them in the first place. This coming season should prove better suited for what's left of the Ariani holdings anyway. I have, however, heard that one of the southern empires on the mainland has offered refuge for the Ariani. All is not lost then if we fail, but we will surely take a hit to our credibility. Though, given what we have had to work with, I don't see how anyone could have expected us to turn back an entire empire.
