I'd love to hear some feedback on this, especially considering my initial idea was to make a less uh.. feature heavy version of the ponymod :P

Well if you want to keep with the show you can always add "Research" fashion, to add lots of different new clothes to the game using lots of different materials. That could add an enormous amount of flavor to the game. Same can be done with alcoholic drinks (Nidokoenig will love you forever if you get this to work) or building materials, new plant species, anything really. (if that's how this "Research" thing can work that is) That could really add to the long term gameplay as your civilization slowly becomes more modern as their knowledge and trade increases.

That's going to cost you many a sleepless night of work though.  ;D Good luck with that.

I seem to be encountering alot of glitches with fanon is magic, first off, When playing as a unicorn I cant seem to do any of their abilities, secondly, it seems that ponies rarely rise to power in worldgen, is there something I am doing wrong?

also, I think Alicorns secret is bugged.

Could be any number of things.

Stronger civilizations sharing biomes or not having underground farming enabled are two options. Could also be caused if they don' build fortifications, which needs to be enabled just like farming.

SNEAK EDIT: So I'm building this modding program... Thinking of adding a clippy assistant too it. Origonal idea is for Clip the Dwarf, unless somepony can give me pony images for a ponyfied version.  ::)

Question about the current version of the mod: will badger pony berserkers send sieges or ambushes?  I accidentally embarked where no diomedians were nearby, and I got badger ponies instead.  They've been sending childsnatching thieves like clockwork, but even after a year or so of having 80 ponies I've not seen even an ambush.

I looked in the raws and it seems that they should send sieges.  Should I just be patient and build my wealth, or will I never see a siege in this fort?  This isn't something that can be modified in an existing save is it?

Personally I'm fine with not having a lot of types of wood of different colours. Masterwork mod even got rid of them altogether, and only has generic wood, but that is taking it a bit too far.

I'll include changed raws without painted wood. Considering you can conjure wood, there are plenty of colours available. There's a thought, I'll move wood conjuring into a new workshop with the various stone conjuring spells, so people don't need a barrel and pot to do the magics.

I think You extrapolate Your conclusions about specialisation and frequency of castes based on too little data.

Slowing down rust rate of physical attributes for EPs is a good idea, as long as You don't go overboard with it. 0.2 times the caps and rust rates sounds good, but pegasai should get the same boost to agility, and Unicorns maybe to mental attributes.

You could also give castes 0.2 times slower rust for the skills for which they get a bonus.

Alicorns are rare enough as it is, so giving them even double the caps, learn rates, and half the rust would be OK. Given the mindset of typical DF player, alicorns will end up as squad leaders anyway. And get owned by invading spider ponies.

Cherelee happens to be the teacher in Ponyville, but there is a specialized school for UPs in Canterlot, so it could suggest giving UPs higher learn rate for student. Personally I wouldn't buff Teacher or Student on any caste except Alicorns, who are supposed to be awesome.

Speaking of alicorns, as it is they get the same bonus to dodge (and maybe speed) as pegasai. Personally I see them as bigger, slower, and not as fast or agile as Pegasai. While magic of the Princesses in the show is powerful, they were not established as exceptional fliers.

I'm definitely basing most of this on guesswork. My plan is to increase strength and endurance on earth ponies, reduce their skill rust and give them the teaching boost, maybe give unicorns higher willpower and intelligence, and reduce slippy size by 50 kilos. Giving pegasi higher agility mainly has the effect of increasing their speed even more, but raising the attribute cap rather than the base makes sense. The teaching boost is as much for in-game balance as for following the show closely, it's a reason to make earth ponies battlers, and alongside the strength and endurance bonus, it should just about tip it in their favour.

As for pony armour, I'd modify the names a bit to make them less confusing to people who don't know about medieval warefare: Chamfron (helmet), Croupiere (flank plate), Peytral (chest plate), Flanchard (torso plate), Caparison (cloak), and Armoured horseshoes. This looks clumsy, but is a compromise between clarity and correctness. I know too little about how DF armour works, but it seems that criniere protecting heck and throat (important part of pony armour) has to be integrated into the helmet, like in the show.

What I'll be doing is making a diagram with explanations. I think DF is enough of a "check the wiki" game that people will be more annoyed by having a key, but I'll put that change in Simplified so it's available for people who want it. DF bodies have no distinct necks, except possibly for giraffes and hydras, so no crinet, and the trunk is only split between upper and lower body, hence the lack of flanchard between peytral and crupper. It would be possible to make some changes to underlying anatomy and add a proper neck and flank, though.

Should be ambushes to begin with, then larger attacks. They don't have the sieger tag, but that just makes them sit around doing bugger all for a few months. Their pop trigger is 80, so maybe try bumping up wealth a bit(baked good statues are good for this). As it's an entity setting, I assume it's not changeable.

Okay, it's offical

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Yeah, Nido, sometimes it is best to leave a creature with a single main caste. Some creatures are just fine with a single caste, and even if they did have more than one what would it add, realy? A single, "lesser" civ that trades good stuff is kind of ruined when they have gigantic humanoid bulls randomly walking around. My opinon? Buff up the size of vannila minotaurs, add in Chimeras and Phenoxes (perhapes with some sort of Greater Cockatraice, if you have made one already?), and you have the basic semimegabeast's done.

Hmmmm.. i wonder if we can make a cockatrice that trurns a pony to stone...

actually...
make stone-as-flesh versions of ponies with [noeat] [nodrink] [nosleep] and [immobile] tags and make a line of sight attack interaction that lets the cockatrice curse the ponies with long-duration stonification!

Yeah, the minotaur goat caste doesn't make an abundance of sense. Pity there isn't a tag for letting megabeasts or semimegabeasts become civ leaders, like [UNIQUE_DEMON] does for demons.

About the cockatrice reaction, doesn't that essentially make cockatrices very useful as emergency medical tools? I mean, going were and then back again heals all wounds, so you could just have a hospital with a cockatrice cage inside, and cage traps in front of the door. Let the cockatrice out, the wounded turn to stone, then unlock the door to lure the cockatrice out to get recaptured. Once the spell wears off, they're right as rain. The stony creature should probably drop a statue like a bronze colossus, just in case anypony manages to kill one.
Might be interesting to have an emergency healing potion, like the one Zecora brewed up in The Cutie Pox to fix Applebloom's tooth. Turn any pony who drinks it into an alicorn or something for a few seconds, then they turn back into themselves, fully healed. Or as a secret spell.

A stare secret? Presumably that would add an interaction that removes predator and prone to rage and adds benign and fleequick. Since it seems to be Fluttershy's natural ability and isn't super-duper useful unless your embark text includes the word "ere the giant tiger badgers get hungry", maybe it could just be added to some ponies by default? Maybe give it primarily to earth ponies with a small chance for pegasi and unicorns to have it.

Hello, I started playing DF again just so I can try this mod, but I've been having a few problems. I installed the game, version 0.31.25, like the mod download page said, and applied the mod to it. (I tried the most recent build in case that was the problem, but it crashed immediately.) From the embark, I noticed problems. My ponies weren't ponies. My first embark was buffalo, I think, the second gave me some evil ponies with anti-nature, tentacle horns, and bat wings, the third gave me spider ponies and others I couldn't even tell what they were... and this was on different worlds and locations, too.

So finally I got a group of plain ol' ponies, set the group to embark, and... nothing. Crash. Window immediately closes before the intro screen that says something like "after long months you have come to found the fortress LittleHorse the Friendly Magic of Friendship" or something like that. None of that, just gone. I looked in the error log, just in case that would help, but all it is is pages and pages of the same line: "Impoverished Word Selector".

So I come to you asking... wut? How can I get this working again? I've skimmed the thread, but it is long, and I didn't find anything like my situation.
