I decreased my buffalo in size a bit, they're still twice as large as ponies tho (except for the females, who are the same size and faster than pegasi), and the pony vs buffalo fight was now alot more even, point to ponies when they're armored tho. Worldgen buffalo are still potent, and i agree that perhaps limiting them to prairie might be the answer. As it is they just spread out too easily and uncontested, and then trunch the poor diomedans into submission early.. i generated three worlds with my slightly stronger diomedan ponies and smaller buffalo, and even then there were only on average a mere 100-300 of the diomedes left after 200 years of buffalo domination.

Well, I finally nailed down what's wrong with the pony civ and the little expatiation problem. Turns out there all starving to death. When set to no eat and no drink they spread to the four corners of the earth! Not sure why though. They seem to be virtually the same setup as humans so why the food problem? Could something in the creature raw be at fault or this an entity issue? Any Ideas anypony?

Until a solution is found, I'm setting up a pony starvation relief fund.  Please call 1-800-142-GIVE to make your donations. For pennys a day, you can help prevent a major historical figure from dieing in a lame-ass way. Please... think of the foals. :'(

Yeah, I was thinking the harshness of world gen was the main culprit. Humans have more of a preference for plains and grassland, whereas ponies quite like the forests, so that's probably the problem. This is all stuff that'll be hammered out by Toady as trading and other civ interactions improves, so I'm loathe to jerry rig a heavy-handed solution. I'll put in [NO_EAT] and [NO_DRINK] but comment them out, so people can turn them on if they want it.

While I was messing around getting carrots and celery set up, I noticed apples weren't set up for wood conjuring, or even considered edible without being sliced, brewed, or turned into sauce. What I'll probably do is finish up diamond dogs, griffons and the new ents, then release the new version and take my sweet time on cocktails, gelatin and dough, since there's a fair few little problems I've come across and patched up.

Is there any way to set up ponies so they can either/or eat food or be a grazer?

If you are messing with the food items in the game you might be causing some strange interactions with the environments, yielding starving ponies.  But if they can either graze OR eat cooked food, then they should have much less in the way of starvation issues?

How did I miss the existence of this thread?
(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

Civ grazers don't work, as far as I know, and it would almost certainly have no effect in world gen, but I'll try giving them a grazer value and see how they do. As for messing with food, it's only adding, not taking away, if I don't know what I'm doing, it'll become obvious during testing. In fact, the doughs should improve food supply if the reactions get taken into account, because my plan is to have booze(for fluid and yeast), tallow/eggs, flour and optionally sugar/syrup as the ingredients, so they'd increase the amount of edibles available.

Playing again after a long break, should I take Derpy, Trixie or Zecora as my seventh pony?
Never mind, seventh pony is a unicorn, Trixie it is.

Also, somebody give me a goal so I don't get bored and quit playing after three game years again. Already building above ground, of course.

mross:
building aboveground you should have plenty of work to keep you from getting bored! build houses for everypony, induvidual buildings for different shops, screw efficiency and go for the looks! paint that wood! pretty up the place!

In other news, I have after about a day of playing around with my crappy python skills managed to write up a program that scans and multiplies castes with no errors.
Tested it out and it seems to be working, embarked with several earth pony females with different looks!

The advantage to this little program is being able to edit the creature file and THEN copy everything, instead of having multiple edit points or several minutes of copying stuff between each edit session.

And, if I remember correctly, elves calculate your wood usage by the change in your stockpiles, so ponies conjuring wood from plants grown in fertilised fields by a legendary planter would infuriate them. Anyway, any race whose military is known for force-choking, stabbing the enemy with their horns, and wrestling with their teeth does not deserve comparison with the elves.

mross: don't use any wood that hasn't been painted, and build a large wooden tower. If you've got a variety of dye plants, draw a picture or pattern on each floor.

Is there a significance to 'right' vs 'left' mouthed ponies? I tried searching by the tag but didn't see anything in the thread. Is it unimportant and the distribution just isn't modulated or what?

Hey New Guy, if you're still around: thanks for the info a while back about fixing the hoof template so that they heal. Now I've got a (pegacorn) pony with a torn-open tendon in his horn, which also won't heal. Horns are set up with a heal rate already, so that's not it. How do I fix this? Why does the horn have a tendon anyway?

It's funny--someone said earlier that winged ponies move at full speed even if they can't walk, but it's not true. They hobble pathetically on mouth-crutches like everypony else.

Edit: Also, it's really pissing me off watching Darkbolt (you mean Shadowbolt?) ponies rain crossbow bolts down on my ponies from the sky while my pegasus ponies stand there on the ground and watch. Stupid broken flight.
