the second row i will try to put some of the new creatures/monsters on, assuming the first row looks good and i should do more of that.

is 16x16 too small? you mentioned 22 sprites wide, i assume thats for the picture pngs? 6 tiles high? so the creature ones are 22x6?

Those sprites are awesome, adecoy. And that picture is awesome, too mross. I'd love to see more.

16x16 is fine, adecoy, it just needs to be about 20% cooler. When I say sprites, I mean an individual 16x16 pixel picture. So the domestic creatures png file is 22 picture wide, for 22 types of animal, and 6 tall, for six possible varieties, adult, child, zombie, skeleton, war and hunting. So the picture is 22x6 sprites wide, and since the sprites are 16x16, the file 352x96 pixels wide. I'll see about putting those sprites into a proper grid and doing the graphics definitions when I've finished the new update, it's already taken longer than I'd have liked. I had the idea of using cutie mark dots to differentiate different profession, like if we have Rarity sprites for the various crafters, they can have a different dot for stone, metal or wood crafting. Given how many crafters there are, it's great to have two sprites for her. I am a bit stuck for what profession to give Pinkie Pie... besides Drunk.

yea dots would not be all that tough to put up there

pinkie pie is the cook, she could also double as a sheriff in a pinch, she has proven to be capable of keeping an eye on everyone. nobody can hide from her and distance means nothing to her as long as your not looking directly at her (and she has no fear). wait a min, wasn't there a doctor who episode about pinkie pie? the weeping angels or something.

at least imo ;)

yea im not 100% sure about everything you need, but let me go through whats on the first post and see how it could work. i could make bunches of the canon ponies all day, but i doubt you just need them  :P

Adds a new creature, the Little Pony, with six castes, Earth, Pegasus and Unicorn in both genders, and a playable pony civilisation. Also changes meal names to cupcakes, muffins and baked bads, adds five pony armour items, a topiary toy and a birds nest(just a renamed nesting box, really), and adds four hundred and forty one different stripe patterns for use in pony hair. Ponies have a grasping mouth, are much larger than dwarves and have higher than average creativity, endurance and empathy.
i will probably leave stuff like this alone, there are a lot of good graphics packs that take care of these, i could try my hand at armor tho, but i am not sure i could pull that off

Pegasuses... Pegasi... Pegasodes..? The pretty, flying ponies, have the FLIER tag, which apparently does nothing.

got two of them, luna could be considered a baby i would imagine.

Earth ponies: got a few of em made, including applebloom

Unicorn ponies: got some good ones there i think.

Aziza Zebras: Based on African fairies, they live in forests, and thus have increased skill gains in hunting and wood-related skills. As the aziza are also the beings who gave man the gift of fire, aziza zebras gain skill in furnace related abilities quicker.
Ibis Zebras: Based on the ibis bird, considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians and believed to represent Thoth, these winged zebras are good at negotiation, organisation, record keeping, architectural skills and delicate crafting work. They are also great animal trappers and herbalists. While most Ibes are black and white, some are brilliant red.
Karkadann and Abada Zebras: Karkadann have one horn growing from their muzzle and outnumber Abada, who have two horns growing from their heads, two to one. Both known for their purity and the medicinal properties of their horns, they have higher than average ability in medical, dissection and farming skills, as well as cheese and soap making. Having two horns allows the Abada to focus two telekinetic waves at once, allowing it to wield two shields in addition to a weapon.

my zebra will need some work, im trying to get the stripes to come through but they are a bit too dark, ill try to get it looking good tomorrow.

Cave ponies: Six castes, Draltha, Slippy and Gorlak across both genders:

Dralthas are big(350 kilos) slow(Speed 1000), and learn skills related to animal husbandry, carpentry, masonry and furnace operating faster than others, and are better at intimidation and persuasion. They need alcohol to get through the working day.

i could try to make a pony with a chest that kind of comes out more than the others, try to make it look bulky or heavier.

Slippy ponies are small(150 kilos), fast(Speed 777), have eight legs, shoot web and have trapavoid. They learn skills related to working with thread, making clothing and chemicals faster than other ponies, as well as having a natural affinity for mechanics. The lazy so-and-sos will insist on using crutches if just one of their eight legs is damaged.
Gorlak ponies are below average size(200 kilos) and have two telekinetic tusks. They have a strong affinity for crafting, dissection, brewing, and plant processing. They may get a buff in a future update.

hmm, spider body, pony head?

Diomedian ponies: Six castes, Keshi, Darkbolt and Tentacle. Their skills affinities are currently the same as earth, pegasus and unicorn ponies respectively. Darkbolts have a bloodsucking bite, while tentacle ponies have a tentacle instead of a horn, which they can use to lash their enemies.

i could probably do this alright, the darkbolts could be a darker pony with some yellow eyes or something if that's cool, do the darkbolts have any similarity to the evergreen forests illusionary wonderbolt team?

the tentacle pony shouldn't be too bad, they would look a bit smaller tho, since i would probably make the tentacle whip around and then under the chest, but ill do a few passes and see how they turn out.

Parasprites: Oh yes. Clusters of 20 to 50 food stealing, drink guzzling, flying parasprites in forest regions. Excellent source of web.

i could whip up extra colors of sprites but i don't know if they would work in game or not, i could also try to make a couple of really tiny ones in the same box instead of one big one

Tanks: A reptilian herbivore, admired by some for its resemblance to a pony in formal attire. Its scales are pale blue and its shell is rainbow striped. It gives birth to live young due to its voracious appetite precluding sitting on eggs for months. It does not produce milk, but does produce more meat than a typical grazer of its class.

:o im not quite shure what to do with this one, i could take something that looks like a 4 legged grazer and make it green and give it a pony tail?

Wheat worms: Six varieties of worm which are cultivated like plants....
i could do this with a color change and maby change their facing so they might look a bit more like a pile of worms when near each other or something

i still gotta run through the first batch i made and give them some eyes  :o probably gonna do that first thing in the morning.

Actually, the way graphic sets are defined doesn't seem to allow for caste-specific definitions, it's more profession-based. It'd be great if someone who knows more about them can tell us if it's possible to specify, but the code seems to be focussed on creature->profession:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So the creature is DWARF and then it defines the graphic for each profession. If there was a way of defining different appearances for each gender, I'd assume we could use that code.

Try downloading the MayDay or Geoduck tileset and using that as a base, just replace each sprite as you go until it's all original content. It doesn't seem to be possible to do caste-specific tiles, so we'll just have to deal with migrant miner unicorns looking like earth ponies.

I'm thinking we'll have enough for basic testing if we can cover:

Admin nobles: Twilight Sparkle, done
Useless nobles: Celestia, done
Medical dwarves: The nurse pony from Applebuck Season
Miners: An earth pony, based on skill learn rates
Stoneworkers: Oddly, I have earth ponies good at stonecrafting, and unicorns good at masonry, I should flip that. But still, one earth pony stone crafter and one unicorn
Woodworkers: Maybe Trixie, no real reason, just to use her sprite
Rangers/Animal handlers: Fluttershy(maybe a different one for hunters)
Metalworkers: Split between earth and unicorn again
Jewellers: Rairty, so done
Crafters: Rarity again, so good job on doing two sprites. I remember saying upthread if she was dwarf she'd be legendary in half a dozen things.
Fisherponies: Maybe Rainbow Dash, I usually end up making pegasi do things that require lots of moving around
Farmers: Lots of things, so best split between Applejack and Big Mac, so, done. Oh, and Pinkie Pie for cooking and maybe brewing, good idea.
Engineers: Unicorn stuff as far as the raws are concerned
Default dwarves: Derpy
Standard dwarves: Derpy again
Child: Apple Bloom
Baby: erm, maybe a tiny Apply Bloom wearing a nappy?
Drunk: Pinkie Pie
Thieves
Prisoners
Slaves
Ghosts
Military Dwarves.

Draltha ponies, I always imagined as being thickset, Big Macintosh-style, with a thick mane covering their neck, not just on the back of it. Slippies seem more wiry, with eight thin but distinctly pony-like legs. The name slippy comes from Slepnir, he's just an eight-legged horse.

Yeah, the Darkbolt name does come from the Darkbolts in the pilot. I was originally going to have vampire ponies that could convert their victims with the night creature tags, but they're not functional. Might be interesting to see if the new functionality in the next version gives me any interesting options there.

Extra Parasprite sprites sprites sprites probably isn't doable, no, unless we can have caste-based definitions and I just double them up.

The tank is admired for its resemblance to a pony in formal attire, it's a joke based on the line in The Art of the Dress about Rainbow Dash not wanting to look like a tank. Basically just a giant turtle with a long, pony-like neck and a rainbow shell.

That thing about wheat worms makes me wonder if there's a way to do plant graphics. Logically, it should be possible, but this is DF. I've also been thinking about vermin in reactions, it might be possible to have an actual wheat worm vermin that have to be caught and then "domesticated" into a plant before they can be grown. That'll be something for a future update, though, but even we can't do plant sprites I'll make a wheat worm vermin we can use the sprites for eventually. Oh, and while you're working on those sprites, giant wheat worms and so on are coming, so have a sprite of a single, big one as well as the big pile of wriggly-gigglies.

This mod has gotten slightly out of hand...

Edit: Oh, lookee, somebody's doing a Lets Play.

another batch of ponies, i gave the working ponies little hats like in the phobeus mod to try and distinguish the different roles, not as much screen real estate for fancy hats tho with the ponies, i think it turned out good tho.

from left to right after the cockatrice, mining pony, engineering unicorn, misc Pegasus, ghost Pegasus, metalworking pony, military pony, alternate mining pony, nurse pony, prisoner pony, hard hat pony, hard hat Pegasus, terrible pony (color looks wierd close up), doc pony, and applebloom with a nappy.

those are just what i was going for, they are not set in stone or anything, if you wanted to switch them around. i think i missed some from your list but i am not shure, let me know :D

i tried to take the ponies and replace the icons in one of the graphics packs to see if it would turn out ok, but they are not all placed in there in straight rows and i was not shure if i would have cropped the ponies accidentally by placing them in EDIT: i think i can get a rough one in, but its alot of copy-pasta for now

This is so absolutely off the wall that I'm not sure if I'm horrified or stunned.

Definitely going to watch this and see how it develops.

My Little Pony meets Dwarf Fortress.  *brain explodes*

i tried changing the line in graphics_phoebus_dwarves.txt from
[CREATURE_GRAPHICS:DWARF]
to
[CREATURE_GRAPHICS:PONY_LITTLE]

but it did not work. the pony graphics is still up for the dwarven civilizations only.

i made sure that i chose just a regular pony civ and not a zebra one or something.

here are some screens of it in action, its an old dwarven civ save of mine, but at least you can see what it looks like.

Awesome. Looking at the new announcement, I'm going to have to hustle unless I want to have to add a bunch more animal ponies, then I can get to work coding for adecoy's sprites. I pretty much only have the paint plants and painted leather to add now, though, but I'm going to test out the rainbow ponies(normal, evil and cave as one civ) and buffalo a little just to make sure it doesn't explode.

Add an evil and/or cave dwelling pony civ

That is odd, I thought Pony's already have evil counterparts.

In fact two.

Witches and this guy with his legion of demons.

@adecoy: Ah, I just saw those messages right after I posted. Those are great sprites, good work. If you want to post the links here, go ahead, I'm going to get on with the final tweaking and testing.

@Neonivek: Assuming that's from the pre-FiM stuff, I haven't seen that version, so the diomedian ponies are just tentacle, vampire and keshi(a horse demon from Hindu mythology, equivalent to an earth pony in-game). I might look into it, if only to take notes for a Smooze megabeast. Oh, and during my animal ponies replacement binge, I added sea ponies to replace merpeople. If we ever get sound tags opened up a little, I know the first thing I'll do.
