I still say you should find a way to trick the party member with the sword into sticking said sword in a hole in the fabric of the multiverse. That'd be fun.

Or just make the sword go "Nah, don't feel like killing those guys. Lets go kill some ninjas instead!"

Hillariously I mentioned that. He was like "I covered that, the sword has my soul as its soul so it would do anything I want"

and I was secretly going "Yes... like you have never wanted something but didn't feel like it"

I am just waiting for his full write up. Then I'll post it. Who knows what it will have.

His weapon simply doesn't make any sense. Because if it contains the memories of everyone who came before him, its obviously more "not him" than it is "him". Even if it has the same "soul" that doesn't mean it has the same mind. Also, it doesn't make any sense anyway, since he says it eats souls and contains a ton of souls. Tell him to stop being a moron and make something reasonable or your going to forcibly interpret it into something reasonable.

Basically as I understand it... The weapon and the user becomes one essentially cloning the soul inside the weapon and putting the old soul into storage.

Yes I know he is being freeken annoying and is trying to abuse the system intentionally. He isn't SUPPOSED to set his character up for power, he is doing that as a way to make himself more powerful then the other characters.

Unfortunately I cannot do anything about that.

A convient hole in the multiverse could come along and swallow him up...

I want to disable him within the confines of what he already wrote rather then just DM fiating.

It just works better that way. Especially since I don't want to seem like a jerk... even to the jerks.

The hole could swallow his sword arm. While he's wielding the sword. That way you take the sword away, and cripple him for being a jerk.

Send a bunch of High-level demon hunters after him (Preferably of an immaterial type, if D&D has that, so that he needs magic to kill them, instead of chopping at them). Make it so that the party constantly has to flee from persecution and hide or else a bunch of hunters will pop up that put his blade to shame. Make them supernatural if you will, to match the blade, but do make sure the party has a change to flee their first (few?) encounters.

Note that he hasn't specified the souls adsorbed though, so in theory he has access to every single skill and spell in the game and then some.

This one gets my vote. :P
He can't fight the group if he's busy drawing flak from other sides.

So THIS is how migrations start.

Perhaps he can draw on that knowledge and experience, only if the soul in question is willing.

and there is little that is to say that the soul brought forth in question wouldn't... I don't know... forcibly take the weapon for their own.

Or, you know, take possession of him.

This is where you are wrong. Letting your players walk all over you like that will make it less fun for everyone.

THEN STOP HELPING HIM

Every time you tell him your plan to twist his desires, he'll work around it. Anything he comes up with, you've got to keep the flaws to yourself and work with anything he doesn't explicitly clarify, and don't let him know until its too late. Also, this whole thing sounds pretty stupid. :/

But yeah, have it so the summoned souls are not actually under his control.

Ohhh it gets worse

He is also getting actually players of dungeons and dragons to help him with this.

I am not sure if he is taking their well intentioned advice and peverting it (afterall the Soul Reaper's story would work fine as a legacy weapon if it wasn't so ultimate) or if he is actually getting crazy people to add stuff in.

He is litterally getting people to look over it and fill in the gaps.

Anyhow my next post will be the official weapon's story slash list of abilities. Not JUST because I need help without actively just destroying it (Though I have plenty of plans that make perfect sense... such as why would a bunch of Balors even listen to him when he is a level 10 demonesk being?) but because I think you guys would get a kick out of seeing munchkinning in perfect action.

Another fun option: Using the sword's powers requires him to break the barrier between this world and the spectral realm. Each time he does, there is a chance that the rift will carry some rather unpleasant things with it, ranging from temporary insanity to powerful spirits and explosions of spectral energy.

make it a gigantic sword embedded in the earth, a la might and magic.

The only way he can pick it up is to become so gigantic, he causes collateral damage, then giant-monster-killing wizard-lasers shoot him.

Basically as I understand it... The weapon and the user becomes one essentially cloning the soul inside the weapon and putting the old soul into storage.

His chosen form on this earth is a sword, dur.
