Alternatively... And I can feel my time playing Dwarf Fortress build up behind me with this one...
Did he specify the material it's made out of?
I'd love to see the sword shatter on the first strike.

Ohhh there was a hint

A village supplied the materials for the sword.

Pff. That guy has it totally wrong. The sword has controll over his soul, not the other way round.

Damn munchkins [/hypocrite]

Well darn, if he's hinted at it I guess that means you're less likely to get away with it.
...But a village? That makes it sound like it's made of shoddily forged iron, that'll rust away in the rain anyway.
If he's really going to be that unhelpful, you may have to consider putting your foot down.

At worst I could just say the sword was so powerful it ascended and became a diety

Afterall it is a stupidly powerful sentient weapon with the powers and abilities of every single being who previously used it (all who are ultra powerful demons)

Heck... I could easily just make the sword several sized larger so as to be weilded by a Balor (Two handed large weapon). Making it incapable of being used by my player... (hmmmmm)

Nah, he'll just say "the sword makes me strong enough to wield it".

Make the sword steal his soul and then let it Ascend.

Or you could have it be destroyed by an umbral blot (Epic-level Monster.)

I am sure it is indestructible. So I guess it will have to be a living Mages Disjunction.

Or you could just kill whatever god is holding the universe together.

Lets see what happens the first time he swings his soul powered sword through a ghost, or any other soul affecting creature.

I just remebered that there is a monk variant that allows them to be chaotic. It replaces their flurry of blows with a ability that allows them to hit severl times depending on what the d6 says.

Lessee if I can find it...

Or, if you want to get trippy, hitting itself.

Or stolen and used as a way to target the character with various spells.

Or find a way to trick said party member into sticking the sword in a hole in the fabric of the multiverse. That'd be fun.

Or you could just kill whatever god is holding the universe together.

Specifically each player is secretly a god who made a pact to create a world together and explore it as ordinary mortals. The pages they give me is essentially what the god handed to the endless chaotic void to create.

The patron diety they make will BE them. The real them, that they are incapable of returning to.

Except the 6th god (being me sort of) corrupted this pact and created his own world in hopes to absorb their souls and become an uberdiety being unhinged by the rules the other dieties had to follow. Unfortunately for the 6th god thanks to some ill placed words he weakened himself to mortal status and is biding his time. Not that it matters too much for in his own writing he created a "darker" version of anything the players create deep underground.
