Solid adamantine tube *Maybe Spoilers*
« on: March 20, 2011, 10:00:14 pm »

I was looking through my map with DFReveal to see what my deep metal was and I happened look at my HFS. During this I found an adamantine tube that is completely solid all the way through. And about half of it is surrounded by rock instead of magma. Is this normal Am I just that lucky?

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

It's not common, but it's not as rare as the space elevators.  Enjoy!

I often see sections of adamantine tubes that extend above the magma, and often several levels near the top are solid. I've never seen on that's completely solid all the way down though, that's a treat.

I've seen some that go as high as the second cavern, and are solid down to about the top of the sea.

Natural stone has a floor above it, so if you dig out a layer, the layer above is untouched.  You already do this when you dig your fort and place one layer directly beneath another.  Why should it be any different?

Now, if you dig out the adamantine layer blocking out the magma, will it fall down the tube and kill the clowns? Or is every single one of them immune?

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

Armok's Whisker, aka the Adamantine Space Elevator, aka that wonderful blue tower 2215 z-levels tall that causes FPS to drop to 1 on embark.  There is a nice big thread on it in this section of the forums. :D

I like to have 'levels above layer 5' set to 100 just for this situation.  It really is not that uncommon for a tube to be solid most of the way down to the bottom, sometimes solid the whole way even.  Setting levels above 5 to 100 means that there is that much more chance of an awesome solid tube of happymetal.
