ive had 2 sieges (bad ones) where the goblins will spawn on the edge and just hobble there not attempting to ransack the fortress but just gather on the edge
they will chase you if you get too close or manage to hit one of them without being shot down
but only some will chase you, the rest will stay on the edge and wait for you to attack them
reason i lost my last fortress was because i sent my entire fort of 29 dwarves to kill 16 goblins
little to say i killed 10 of them but of course lost 13 unskilled dwarves
the main problem is the archer goblins will shoot you dead before you can reach them which isnt very pleasing when there are 8 crossbow/archers with moderate skill stacking arrows in your dwarf heart
i understand the pathing issue is at large for this as having multiple levels, multiple entries, and multiple places to spawn
one spawn was off a cliff but with a route up 2 ramps to the main entrance
another was fine location to seige with easy access to the start point
i think goblins should immediately go for the dwarf "start" location where you and your gear appear as you start or reclaim a map
or even better, go straight for any "designated" areas such as ponds, watering holes, meeting halls, dining rooms, barracks and have a blast attempting to sniff out the relentless dwarf hiding in the depths of their favorite death trap
either way the goblins were useless to me and i lost my ass horribly
29 dwarves lost to 29 goblins
ok, first seige they just stood there off the cliff so i attacked
VERY NEXY SEASON 16 more goblins appeared off the main road (going north) and just stood there
i had little hope so i just sent another wave at them and starved the injured from previous battle
i reclaimed the fortress quite well
took forever to forbid/claim all my items
and most of them are scattered from adventure mode
i have items now lodged on top of impossible peaks
but oh well
they will eventually be recovered unless a resque masque comes and steals them all
