As I'm understanding it, Armok likes this because the whole video can be seen as one large steathy way of claiming that the USA is now/is becoming an authoritarian democracy-in-name-only, and that our leaders can effectively control and oppress us in much the same way as Mubarak and Gaddafi, but the likes of Glenn Beck are allowing them to do so and gain support from it at the same time. It takes the union protests going on at the moment as a sign of things to come, and needed to overthrow the oppressive state/keep the state from becoming oppressive.

At least that's my take on what Armok thinks about this, and if I happen to be right: Armok? You crazy.

One thing I dont really believe is that there is a shadowy organisation or political elites that are pulling the strings (aka, the illuminati or whatever people want to call it).

 'Corporatocracy' these days, the idea that massive corporations hold the real power and our elected government is helpless to disobey their needs. Thats what I believe. Its rampant capitalism that has enslaved us.

One thing that I have heard Egyptians say on TV is that the West seems to think that Egypt was fighting for democracy "Just like in the USA" when in  many over there dont see western democracy as real freedom.

The only difference between the countries in violent revolution and us is that most western governments can still feed their people. This is just enough to keep us from rioting... but Im not sure how long that will last.
Im still holding my breath to see if the economy collapses, and ill be ready for it.

But no, revolution is not the answer. If the US truly is a corporatocracy it's because that's what the people want, or what the people believe they want. If corporations control our destinies it's because we give them the power by giving them our money.

A revolt against the government is not the answer when it is the people who are the problem.

That's one of the problems with corporations right now, you really can't easily deny them money, partially because they employ a large part of the population and party because they are so omnipresent that you would have to boycott pretty much everything in a certain field of industry if you want something to have an impact.

It's extraordinarily hard to "rebel" against corporations, it's essentially impossible if you are going to live in modern society. In order to do so you have to A) be extremely careful where you buy food/what you buy B) Can't use any electronics C) can't pay taxes (since the government contracts corporations) D) pretty much can't buy anything

So that means no:
Car (all made by corporations)
Computer/Electronics (all made by corporations, as are all the parts)
House/Apartment (since you paying taxes will give some to corporations)
Job (since you paying taxes will give some to corporations)
Giving money to anyone else for any purpose (since they will spend pretty much all the on corporations)

And no, people don't want the corporations to control us (that's like saying that lybia is a dictatorship because that's what the people want). One of the main problems is that the corporate media is pretty much the whole media (skewing any picture we get to be less-anti corporation), and that lobbyists have a huge amount of power. I would say though that the republicans (in the government), do basically work for corporations, and that they have no problems doing so.

I never said it wasn't extremely difficult. Of course it's extremely difficult, rebellions are inherently difficult. You're trying to uproot a massive power and that's just not gonna be easy. And it wouldn't necessarily have to be a binary thing either. We wouldn't all have to immediately stop buying all products produced by any corporation. Making a dent in their profits might be enough.

Anyway, my point was that we wield a lot of power with our money and perhaps if we thought in terms like that we might be able to come up with some creative solutions that don't involve a governmental upheaval.

Indeed very true.

Corporations are just out to make money, they don't have any nefarious ulterior motives or anything. Sometimes they do unethical or quasi-ethical things in pursuit of that goal but I think taking a bit more care with our spending could help curb that.

On the other hand, even if you're completely against corporations I still don't think it makes sense to start a literal revolution over it.
