My first thought is that DF finally had proper !!explosives!!, but then it occurred to me that it's probably related to construction. But bronze construction mortar? What is this thing?

mortar, as in mortar and pestle. You use it to grind shit up.

Mortar and Pestle type grinding dealy, used in cooking IRL, not sure if it has a real function in Dwarf Mode.

You grind stuff with it. At least, that's what they're for in real life. I dunno if they work in DF.

atleast in adventure mode, NPC:s grind vermins into different pastes but im not 100% sure sure if you can use that in adventure mode, guess it works.

dont know what it does in Dwarf Mode though

I don't think it has any uses yet, but presumably will eventually be used by dwarves for grinding things.

Good point, although IRL a mortar would be used for grinding very small amounts at home while a quern would be used for larger, industrial amounts, I would think.

Not sure exactly how the difference would be shown in DF, if at all.

Mortars are used to grind fine things, like medicine and herbs, which is why a lot of doctors have a mortar and pestle on their logo or somesuch.  I have one myself, I use it to grind peppers that I grow, and grind some flower petals to add to alcohol/vinegar and water to make some perfume or potpourri.

i could see the mortar and pestle being used in a future workshop...likely related to healthcare, maybe to deal with infection? or does soap do that >.>

Mortars will probably be required for any type of medicine creation.  When we're eventually able to treat syndromes and infection, and dwarves get sick randomly, it'll be nice to make medicine.

Querns are a bit large to be carried everywhere in adventure mode, especially considering that they come in pairs.
