I realized I had not been taking pictures, so here are some.

Here is the castle, with workshops and stockpiles. A bit messy right now, so maybe some reorganization is in order.

Here is the whole from where I pierced the aquifer.

Here's where I penetrated the aquifer.

Here are the mines.

Expedition Log of Zech Thosbutzasit, 21st Opal

Whoops... apparently some of the hens where fertilized before we slaughtered the roosters. As a result a very large amount of chicks have hatched. I suggest that any roosters be slaughtered as, or before they reach maturity to avoid us being completely overrun by chickens!

I think there's something screwed in the upload - a bunch of the files show as 0 bytes, including 'world.sav' at the bottom... DF won't recognize the region.

What are you using to zip the files up with? World.sav is 0kb again, and the region can't be opened.

What does this saved game look like in your region folder?

I'm using right click "send to" and then Compressed (zipped) folder, However the previous time I took it from the Zumodrive. Try this link.

That seems to have worked. Note to future overseers - the fort is running on .22 at current.

Magentawolf's Log - 3rd Granite

The liaison from the Mountainhomes came by today to officially transfer stewardship of the project to myself. Fortunately, Zech had informed me ahead of time, but it's still a bit of a nasty shock at first. There are currently seventeen dwarves assigned to this project, and also an apparently uncountable number of chickens wandering the inside of the fort.

One of the first things I've decided to do is to wall off the mining section from the outside world, and construct a tunnel connecting them to the castle proper.

The second thing I did is to address our falling food supplies. One things that these hens have for them is a constant supply of eggs. While they can't be eaten raw, I've ordered the cooks to start preparing some simple meals from the ingredients that we do have.

5th Granite

By Armok! I've found that not a single inhabitant of this fortress knows how to cook. I've assigned Cilob to the task, and can only hope that she's a quick learner.

12th Granite

The bloody human continues to shout and harangue us from his tower-top, and certain of our members have yet to harden their hearts against his invective.

20th Granite

Making good on the liaison's promise for additional manpower, a fresh wave of workers showed up today, 18 dwarves strong.... which more then doubled our current population. One, a Dobar Kubuksanreb, was an accomplished hunter and was immediately sent to procure additional supplies. The others were quite a motley lot, without a single miner among them!

What are they playing at? We require skilled hands to finish this project on time, and the mountainhome knows it!

25th Granite

One of the new migrants began muttering strangely today, and set out in a beeline for our single forge; not caring for the disruption his put in my plans for additional crossbow bolts and mining implements.

6th Slate

And what did he create, with the single iron bar he took into the forge? A boot. A low boot. A single low boot. He claims that it's named 'Iniradril Therleth Fashuk', or 'Declineweavers the Snake of Meanness'. It is studded with iron. Quite a nice piece, really, and appraised at 22800 dwarfbucks, but COMPLETELY USELESS!

7th Felsite

Our cook is coming up with some quite lovely Hen egg and Hen egg omelettes lately.. Sometimes there's some chicken tallow mixed in. Delicious!

An interesting observation - The bridge at the entrance? It's a retracting bridge.... not a drawbridge.

Happens when making bridges in a hurry sometimes in forgetting to set the lifting direction. Unless it was intentional, of course.
