Not sure what's going on ....
« on: November 19, 2007, 09:30:00 pm »

I have a large Sunstone I bought from the first caravan.

The dwarfs simply will not move it to the gem stockpile.

So I thought maybe it's something else.  It looks like a gem.

But when I look at it with the k it's a (large Sunstone) - a container!

Ok and what's in it?

Well, its got "water covering" in it.

Large gems are Finished Goods.  The () around the item means it wasn't produced on-site.  It was also not really a container- contaminants are displayed as if the item was 'carrying' them.

Oh duh.  lol  The offsite () and the contaminat conspired to throw me off.

Why won't they store it in the gem stockpile?

The 'water covering' suggests that your sunstone is submerged, i.e. some silly dwarf has gone and dropped it in a lake/river/channel. If an item is located in a square with water of depth 4(?) or more, the dwarves count as having no path to the object, and so they won't bother trying to put it in the stockpile. This is mostly a guess at what's happened, but I can't think of any other way that a sunstone would get a water covering.

Water coverings also occur if the item was left out in the rain.  If your depot is outside, that's probably where it came from.

Yeah it was in a catch-all storage plot outside, but I un-designated it so that everything would get moved inside.

I can only guess that it's "under water" but ... nothing else is.  Heh.

Large gems, as said, are finished goods. So naturally they won't fit in a gem stockpile. Build a finished goods stockpile instead.

Is it normal for a gem cutter to produce gem crafts when cutting? I don't mean just large gems, but varous trinkets too, like rings, amulets...
