I like the bogeymen.  They give me a real reason to be afraid of the night.

Agreed.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I really don't get these hundreds of threads :P. Their number is customizable, and you can see their raws in world.sav. I guess people are just too lazy to guess an obvious answer or use search :).

But on topic, I don't really like the bogeymen mechanic. Mainly because you cannot do much to change their flavor, and I love total conversion mods, so I have to dump the whole night creature idea alltogether if I want to stay close to some less-classical fantasy theme.

I think that Toady has said that he will reduce the probability of bogeymen appearing once you have more to do during the night.
Aim for the lower body, by the way. It's really no myth that they drop like mayflies if you succeed in hitting them there. Self-destruction button, or something like that...

Are you kidding, I love them!

Tolka has 84 other kills

5 bogeyman
3 bogeyman
2 bogeyman
1 bogeyman
4 bogeyman
...

Of course, being a dwarf with a silver short sword in a trance helps.

Bogeymen are unneeded additions to the game, I legitimately can't find a reason why they were added that makes sense, and I do NOT fall for the simple "HURR FEAR THE NIGHT" crap, I have no trouble one shotting them, believe you me, but I just hate "YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY INCESSANT CACKLING every six seconds, I really wish there was a way to remove them that didn't also remove all other night creatures, they are the stupidest way to die in this entire game, even stupider than dodging off of a cliff.

I like the bogeymen for they give me a reason to stock up on slaves for my Adventure fort and make silly companions that run away from every thing even if they have flipping high skills.

Tame bogeymen become Cute little over power creatures.

My strategy for Bogeyslayer the Demigod

1.Set Strength to Max and Agility, and Spearman
2.Encounter Bogeyman
3.Run around the Bogeys, your speed should be ~1700-1800
4.Retreat slowly, thin them into a line, throw rocks if you have to wait.
5.Stab one in front of you.
6.Back off BUT NOT BEYOND THEIR VANISHING ZONE!
7.Repeat 5&6 Many times.  Bogeys are good at dodging, but once hit, they are doomed.
8.Continue traveling, enjoy your little bit of throwing and archery XP as well as all that swordsery

I enjoy the bogeymen actually, but you need to be prepared for them.

Before trying to fight a bogeyman, you first need to find a rabbit, or other small critter, and wrestle them in at least full copper with a shield until you get legendary fighter, armor user, shield user, and dodger. You also gain a large amount of speed that way. After that, I ditch my companion and wait for the boogeymen, using them to train attack skills.

Attack, step back, attack again. Always move between attacks, and always fight them one on one.

I don't understand what everyone's problem is. Travelling with companions or staying in towns at night isn't too hard...
Some people like the feel of fighting alone against many people.

Bogeymen are absolutely the most annoying part of doing this. No matter how good you are at killing them, they're going to be back the next night, and they never drop anything of worth. It is precisely the worst, most unproductive use of battle time. Sure, you get some battle experience, but bogeymen are -so far- the only enemy I've seen that has killed me repeatedly with their bare fists on the first shot. Also, a lot of good camps/caves/etc are outside of "a day's travel" from a settlement.

There should at least be a window of a few days not being attacked by them if you wipe all five of them out. This is a classic video game trope: bad guys that simply don't care if they die. At least goblins run when they're injured badly.

A bogeyman will literally roll after you if they're limbless and still alive.

They poof to smoke when sun comes up. I take it the raws have can't feel pain or have no fear which causes them to be killing machines. Also I think there apart of the wild
