Artifacts in Adventure Mode
« on: March 18, 2011, 07:56:33 pm »

Can they occur without visiting a fortress you made in DF Mode? I read that artifact weapons can occur when a dwarf uses the same weapon for a long enough time, or manages to kill a major historical creature with the weapon.

Anyone have this happen in Adventure Mode?

you have it a little mixed up there.
artifact weapons can only be created by moods.
when a dwarf kills enough dudes or an important dude he may name his weapon, it gets no bonuses other than kill/owner history being tracked.
an adventurer will never name his weapon, but may encounter artifacts or named weapons in old fortresses

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...
It should be pretty fun though.

There should really be a name weapon feature in the game.

You seem to be a bit mixed up about that feature, too.
For all intents and purposes, it is considered an artifact.  The only thing it does /not/ get is the artifact quality bonus.
You can't trade it away, other dwarves won't use it without it being assigned to them directly, you can't dump it...

Kill/owner history is tracked on all weapons.  All of them.

Well, I got a quest from a lord (after killing a dragon from a previous quest) to kill a bandit leader. He was decked out in a full set of <<☼armor☼>> and had a <<☼Silver whip☼>> but no artifacts. So I don't think they're really encounter-able regularly in adventure mode.

I think you can mod in predefined artifacts but random people won't find them I don't think, no.

You'll find them in various ruins you'd find titans in sometimes, and demonic fortresses in place of the blue metal weapons.

Modded in weapons are not artifacts.
