It's not over-analyzing anything.  A bunch of critics complained about things like lighting, plot, and characterization, and I explained to them that they're reading from the wrong cultural frame of reference.

Ah, now that's a fair cop. When I realized (about 30 seconds in) that it was essentially a live-action anime, the reliance on tropes became enjoyable rather than cliched.

The next Saturday that's also a 1 is in February though. I don't think I've got that much patience (or memory).

Note: This may be swapped out last minute for Phantom of the Opera, depending on availability of the Pacific Rim DVD in stores near me.
