EverQuest Progression Server
« on: March 17, 2011, 05:18:27 pm »

They've started an EverQuest Progression Server. Basically, whenever the end boss of an expansion gets killed, they have a vote each week to determine whether they should move onto the next expansion. When enough players vote yes, they change to that expansion's rules etc.

I started playing it today (never played EverQuest before) and god damn it is hard. I'm getting murderated regularly and it's so much XP just to level up. Need some B12G guys for a group!

Anyone else interested in playing some seriously old school MMO gaming?

Are these the official Pay to Play servers or a private one?

Official. I think you can get on the server with a guest pass, though, AFAIK. You don't need any of the expansions for about two months.

I'd like to know if anyone was signing up so I could group with you. You don't get any less XP per mob from grouping in EverQuest, I think. I'd like to coordinate and pick classes. :p If someone else is signing up, I'll go cleric / warrior, if not then I play paladin.

I saw this and was tempted, but passed on it and tried Shards of Dalaya instead for my nostalgia.

Now, I'm forcing myself not to play it lest I be lost for a few months.

Oh man oh man another progression server? I remember loving the last one, but it was ruined by some guilds deciding it was a game of rushing through every raid, though it sounds like they made that less viable.
I may or may not play this, as I don't have as much time as I wish I had. Anyway, Kunark is the third expansion, right? I've had a nagging urge to roam the field of bone and adventure in that tower with man eating badgers.
Also can there be a link to download client or something in the OP? Searches just turn up announcements regarding the opening.

I used the Station Launcher.

I only own expansions up to Kunark. :p Or whatever the third one is.

I think... I think I own that much. I played EQ years ago, leaving a steady string of ~tenth-level characters. It didn't help that, for reasons I cannot possibly fathom, the friend that introduced me to EQ played on the European server. No, he'd never been to Europe, I think he just liked the idea or something. This was before I'd even heard of ping, let alone comprehended the importance of location. So... yeah.

And then I apparently caught a virus (a fact I only realized years later), because suddenly all the (human-ish) character models were nude. As a ten-year-old whose parents frequently wandered by to see what was happening, this was a problem. Running around as one of those Kunark lizard-things helped, but eventually I got tired of dodging all interracial contact and quit. The fact that my highest-level character was a 12 Necromancer didn't exactly help matters.  :-\

I got that much from the free trial, AFAIK. Sony are surprisingly good at giving away free stuff.

I have every expansions minus the latest one on my EverQuest 2 account from a free trial about two years ago. I even have two year veteran rewards from that free trial. :p

So, who's coming and what are we playing?

I vaguely remember screenshots of that, it was a temporary bug, not a virus. Something with the texture packs screwing up in a patch. It's not like they were really naked anyway, more like dolls without clothes, heh.
Also, I just resubbed, I'm not at all sure what I'll be doing, probably first order of business will be a wood elf. I like all the races in the game, so I'll probably make 20 different characters before leveling one past 12.

I would really like to play this but I am playing Darkfall and Rift pretty much all of my free time. By the way, Darkfall can be bought for 9.99 right now, which includes a free month. Only until april I believe.
