"Crusader" Civ
« on: March 17, 2011, 04:38:57 pm »

So I've got an idea, but it's not a big enough idea to really work on.  It is big enough to make me curious though.

The idea is, the civ is a group of crusaders, namely the kind that fight evil.  To this end, they love evil sites, where they can push back the blight and fight against the various undead and such.  They'd probably have a few custom reactions and custom materials of their own, that allow them to "purify" evil plants and trees, not to mention various flavor changes like making them prefer a pantheon of war and purity, to value good art types, and other such tidbits.

So, what sort of token would be needed to make them embark on evil biomes?  I would probably have them begin on a good, and prefer evil sites, and allow them to use good creatures and plants.  Nothing like a silver-clad paladin wielding a spear, mounted on a unicorn, charging headlong into the dank, grimy zombie hordes.  Suggestions and idea-thieves are welcome!

There is no way to make civs start on evil or good biomes at the moment. (Not sure about good but definently evil.)

EDIT: I'm no expert.

Are you sure about that? It was perfectly possible in 40d by giving the civ creature the appropriate token(s).

Give them both [GOOD] and [EVIL] as tokens, and the tags for using good animals. Should do the trick.

There are still zombie and skeletal creatures, out there for them to fight against.

I never said which side dwarves were on.  Given EVERYTHING that dwarves do on a daily basis, crusaders are very likely to take you on.

Perhaps create a special "holy" metal only they can process.. And have access to nomatter how the worldgen turns out.
Then their weapons and armor consists of only that kind of metal?

Edit: Or perhaps a kind of forge that makes any kind of metal they find into such "holy" metals.

And if your Dwarves are considered "Unholy", like for example you burn everything with magma and kill kittens (99% of the playerbase) then they siege you.

Now that I think about it.. You could makes several castes, each caste representing a race, so you can have Crusader Humans, Crusader Elves and Crusader Dwarves in one race?

And on the metals idea.. perhaps leave metals as they are, and create various furnaces.

A Light Furnace, give that to the crusaders. (Males metals into a holy/sacred kind of metal)
A Dark Fiurnace, give that to the normal dwarves and perhaps humans too? (Makes metals into a more menacing kind of metal)
A Blight furnace which the goblins use. (Makes metals into an unholy kind of metal, Blightiron, Blightsteel, Blightsilver, etc.) (and if possible, make this kind of metal weapons to be able to inflict somekind of syndrome?)

Right, but that means they'll be identical to normal humans/elves/dwarves in civ terms.

Think of it as a mix of the other races, banded together to form a completely new race, inorder to fight evil.

Edit: You could also just make a race of flightless angels? Or call them Celestial, or.. something..

I think you would need to make the ethics of the civilization really harsh, though when I looked at it just now, dwarves are already pretty harsh.  Their ethics are really up to your discretion, but I think they should have an ideal that they, as a civilization, try to uphold in themselves.  Dwarves are already pretty strict, but you could chang things, like making LYING be SHUN instead of PERSONAL_MATTER.

Any elves that are a part of it will likely be ones that have given up cannibalism.  If you do decide to include them, you have to reconcile their hatred for plant-murder(joining a group that hate's evil isn't likely to make that go away) with plant-murder being perfectly acceptable to dwarves and humans(who really don't care how much wood somebody uses).  There's a variety of possible tags there though, so I'm sure you can figure out what seems best.
