Heh, I remember when I made a trial account last winter. There was a miner ganking corp with a protection racket. They'd sell you a license to mine, or blast you. I did a lot of mining, and I liked them. They kept you on your toes, you couldn't park yourself in a belt and clock off for dinner. I had to keep moving, align to station and keep an eye on my surroundings, prepared to warp the moment something unpleasant crept up. They made mining fun and exciting. And it felt like a challenge to them, being a free miner.
If you want to mine in Hi-Sec, mine. Imagine every rock gone is a rock they will cry themselves to sleep over. Do not pay their fines. Slip out through their nets, and make it an expense for them to hunt you. If you do want to AFK-mine, or fly unscouted, that is not wrong. Take responsibility for those choices, and do it anyway. Make the space mafia a feature. Make yourself a guerilla-miner.
I like how they made you think like a little fish in a big lake. Keep an eye out, be smart, and make sure that you are worth less than the effort of clipping you. It was good preparation for the bigger ponds.
Of course, they might have been a different type. They didn't just do it for the sake of upsetting people, they had a scam going, and they were also a protest against carebears in general. High Security does not mean Safe, that sort of thing really irritated them. The Minerbumpers seems to at least be related to them, though.
