There used to be one. Probably several at different times. But I can't remember the name.

Hate to be a naysayer, but I reckon a bay12 corp is a bad idea.

Most of the guys around here who already play will already be in various corps that cater to their interests, maining it'd be mainly comprised of new players.  Eve is a pretty damn complex game and you can really benefit from playing with people more experienced and knowledgeable when first starting out.  There are already a plethora of corporations and alliances dedicated too teaching and helping out new players, with the infrastructure and know-how to do so effectively.  Much better than a blind leading the blind scenario.

There are experienced players around who are willing to chip in to help get the new players started.

I was generally excluding people who already sub, for the reasons you state; they've already found their place in New Eden.  You, werty, Sky, a few others that have posted recently.

I was thinking more about people that did a trial (or trial+ through steam), EVE didn't gel for them the first time, and might want to return to kick the tires.  Also people like me that subbed for a while once upon a time (so they nominally Know About Things), but aren't in a position to jump back in with both feet.  Then finally, genuinely new-to-EVE people that are willing to take a look now that there's a free offering.

I'm reluctant to push flighties towards established corps right out of the gate for a few reasons.  A lot of corps want Big Brother type API access; I understand some of the reasons why, but I think it's a little too nosy, especially for new people not truly understanding what the API potentially exposes.  A fair few corps have participation requirements that may not be feasible for some people, especially if they're playing free and not heavily invested in sticking around.  I have a standing invite from a dude to (redacted) in nullsec, but the baseline fleet participation is basically twice a week; doesn't sound bad on paper, but when you've got boring RL adult crap to juggle, even once a week can be difficult.

My aims for a Dorf Corp would be pretty low, really... Have people to fly with and practice basic fleet ops, some modest socialism to help fund/enable activites (or ease losses), and some light mentoring.  Help people find the resources to do what they want to do, and maybe a little matchmaking with established corps that suit the activities better, once they have a sense of what they enjoy.

re: learning corps...  EVE University seems to have a good wiki, but their application process looks a bit cumbersome.  I also read some tibdits that EVE-Uni has some internal strife recently.  Anyone with experience or intel on either note?

What happens if I log into my old account after the 15th? Will I just not be able to use all those advanced skills/those of the other races? And if I should sub again I would get them back?
Because I would much rather look into EvE again if I can use my old char and have a couple billions in cash/assets so I don't have to care about all those rifters that might die.
Can you still have three chars on an account? Because if yes I could probably skill up the next one as I don't think there'd be much my old one could do.

Any skills you have that are not part of the alpha-set will be unusable until you sub/PLEX.  You won't ever lose them, unless you chose to give some up to a skill extractor.  It's still three toons per account, so if your main was maxxed out on the alpha-set, you could certainly use your skill training slot to bootstrap an alt.

Yep, any skills that you have that are above the level allowed by Alpha Clone state will be brought down to that level temporarily until you sub again. You still have access to all your assets, though, so you can toss Rifters at everything as much as you want.

Also, small-time subber here, for only the last 6 months. I'm not really in any established corp or anything so I'm in a position to help out new folks if they need it.

Dunno' about their internal politics, but last I checked (a few months ago) they had citadel in Jufvitte with a decently-stocked market. I've seen a bunch of their dudes running around that area, both in high and low, so they probably have one of their "campuses" around there.

Hmm, I'd even have a corp we could use (not that founding one is difficult), though it has nothing bay12/dwarf fortress in its name. Unless we declare blue to be the favourite colour of elves or goblins. But then, those corps never survived for long anyway.
You said the skills are lowered, so is it only lvl 3/4 on a lot of things?

I think my old char has most subcapital combat ships maxed, and certainly the minmatar ones, so all that would matter for this.

Are things like spectre fleet still going? I think I remember RvB disbanding, so their Friday night NPSI roam is probably no more anyway.

Damn, now I kinda want to play again...

^That page has all the details on Alpha Clones, and near the bottom is a complete skill list for each Race. The skills run the entire gamut of level 1 to 5, lower SP requirement ones tend to have a higher cap.

And I'd be careful flying our Dorf colors around on a Corp in EVE, especially with relatively new folks. Lots of people might relish the idea of wardeccing an established community and round-the-clock ganking anyone who dares undock.

Not on EVE, I don't think. But EVE by its very nature as internet spaceship simulator is a place of internet turf wars, and I'm kinda antsy about the idea of drawing any of it to this forum.

The link I posted not long ago shows what is in the alphe-set; here it is again, for your convenience:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/50hcpc/welcome_to_free_to_play_eve/d77pxyi/

I have a few dorfy names hanging out in a text file, but I think we can probably wing it to start off...  make a list of who's interested, so everyone can buddy-list and set blue in-game.

I don't know about RvB or spectre, but I do hear things about NPSI fleet roams... so the practice seems to have spread/survived.

That link does not account for post-CSM changes; the reddit link I provided above does.  Obvious caveat being there may be a few minor tweaks that aren't public until the patch notes for the 15 Nov deploy go up.

That's a really paranoid take on it.  Small corps get wardecced all the time, for all sorts of reasons.

That said, I have a few ideas to mitigate the problem, to be shared with the corp when/if that happens.  First of which being we don't talk corp business here after the initial organizing and formation.  I'm guessing a discord channel would be the next logical step from there.
