I think the most fun for me was cheap t1 frigs (I just love the rifter) or cruisers.
Longbows are fun, but I just like me some brawling. They are also quite skill intensive.

Corps based on outside forums can often have strength due to shared interests outside the game, and I guess basing in null sec might be more exciting that high sec.  But if I was going to suggest an alternative for a new player to start, it would be Pandemic Horde.  They are the newbro corp of Pandemic Legion, a corp for old vets.  They  have major support services - forums, pvp guides, comms, fleets, advice, PvE (money making) guides etc.  so it makes the learning curve easier.  They have absolutely no requirement for attendance or hours per week etc, just a good 'get in space and have fun' attitude.  Being based in null, you get to skip the whole trap that is high sec space.  They are also involved in the major war that is going on now, so if you want to be a part of that, you can be straight in.

They have kitchen sink T1 fleets all the way up to doctrine fleets.  They do industry, mining, all of it.  My advice would be to join ASAP, dont wait until you feel like you have 'mastered' the basic game - the initial experience is still brutal alone. It honestly compares to Dwarf Fortress in needing outside guides to get even the basics mastered.  I started a new industry alt recently, and was amazed how little guidance is offered when you start the game.

P Horde is not my corp, in case this looks like a sales pitch.

Some corps have a minimum activity level, and purge those who go AFK for a while, but most let people back in when they return.  They do so because then their corp size more accurately reflects the number of active pilots, and the size of fleets they can expect.

Obligatory link for new players:

Again, I'll split the profits with anyone who signs up through this.

I'm not in Horde, because I want to be solo (in a social  MMO?). I fly solo Rifters and T1 frigates in low and null sec, in a tiny dedicated solo pvp corp.  There is absolutely no penalty for going away for breaks, and no minimum attendance.  If there is a criticism it would be that it is almost too hands off.  You need to be completely self sufficient in terms of how you play.  I guess we are missing out on the whole social side of the game.  But we do share kill and loss mails!

The corp will always take those interested in solo pvp, but requires a couple of solo kills first, so we are not really helpful for people completely brand new.

With the war on going, Citadels released next week along with capital ship rebalancing, its pretty active in Eve right now.

That's the thing, playing solo in an MMO doesn't mean avoiding interaction, just cooperation.

-snip-

Yeah, most of this is valid. I generally recommend Pandemic Horde, Brave Newbies, Dreddit(if you're on reddit) and Eve Uni to newbros.

Anyways, everyone who is eventually interested, when you do sign up either use my buddy link, or EvE mail me, my name is Pardet Kynes.

I resubbed and joined Pandemic Horde. 10/10, would recommend, goon-bashing has never been more fun!

Edit: Apparently PH has lost 5,000 ships in the past 2 weeks... and we're winning.

yeah, i often hear that one.
what kind of fights where you looking for? and what where you flying?

the thing is, USUALLY i hear this its from players that tend to avoid any pvp at all costs.
then, once they feel rich enough to afford pvp, or finally feel they have enough sp to try pvp, they buy some blingy ship. usually a gila or a t3 cruiser with the expection that they now will get some leet high class pvp in from of other players derping t1 frigates into them- one at a time.
of course thats not going to happen, and so, they either give up complaining about the fact that one cant have any fight in eve, or derp into the first gate camp in which case they complain that one cant have any solo fights in eve.

in contrast, i had 17 solo fights yesterday alone. being in the right region helps a lot - the factional warfare zones offer plenty of content. and of course, if you want to get a fight, your odds are much higher to get one if you pick fights that promise to be a good fight for your target, too.

Hey, that's the best sort of interaction. Friendly small talk is well and good, but it's hostile fire that gets the blood flowing.

So if this bay 12 Corp thing is happening or if someone is recruiting I may be contemplating coming back to EVE.

Goons, otherwise known as those bee guys, are dead. They have no sov anymore.

I was thinking of giving this a try. While playing it actively might be something I do from time to time is there stuff I can do where I don't have to be "actively" in the game? I have heard that there are things you can basically AFK at but I just wanted to check ahead of time.

Oh and if I decided to give this a try is there still an extended trial and if so can someone hook me up?
