Unless you forgot to keep your clone up-to-date, at least.
In that case, I imagine you just wake up and scream "WHAT YEAR IS IT?!" as you've lost all memory of the past few days as a consequence of your horrible death. Life as a capsuleer can't be as glamorous as it seems.

Incidentally, how's the implementation of Dust now? And what's their justification for the popularity of clones? Is it simply that capsuleers skills are too valuable to lose, to make sure you get revenge or what exactly? You'd think that many of this lot would stop caring after they die.

Er... the popularity of clones is that they effectively make you immortal. Capsuleers are immortal space gods to everyone still planetbound. Almost noone else can afford the cloning process in that lore.

So I'm gonna start playing this over summer; are there any newbie groups I could join so I don't get instatrashed by everything?

EDIT: so yeah, this game is surprisingly fun :D What's a good path to go down to begin with? I'm thinking exploration.

EDIT 2: So uh, how do I trade? I've bought some antibiotics and jumped to a station that supposedly has a buyers offer for them, but when I try it says the broker failed to find the offer?

Possibly someone filled the order before you arrived?

What's a good path to go down to begin with? I'm thinking exploration.

Which race did you choose and what sort of gameply do you enjoy?

Quote
EDIT 2: So uh, how do I trade?

1) Trading can/does occur remotely: just because you are at station X when you buy, sell or list something does not necessarily mean that the item you bought or sold (or listed) is at station X.

2) Most of the item listings you see are being bought/sold/listed by players in the game, not npcs.

3) Trading is not limited to items currently available. For example, if you see a buy order for a widget, that means that somebody wants to buy a widget. They obviously don't have a widget. Though note that the game does not have short selling.

4) The player making a listing chooses the price. Others choose whether they wish to accept the offer. Consequently, there isn't always a direct correlation between buyers and sellers. For example, if Bob has a widget he wants to sell, he might list it for 100 ISK. Just because he wants to sell for 100 ISK doesn't mean that anyone wants to buy at that price, so he places a sell order for 100 ISK, and the item becomes listed. Next, let's say Alice comes along and she wants to buy a widget. But she only wants to pay 80 ISK, not 100. So she sees Bob's order, ignores it, and places a buy order for a widget, offering to pay 80 ISK. There is now one buy order and one sell order, but no orders have been filled.

5) Note that some order types and distances might require certain trade skills to execute. For example, you start the game able to make remote buy orders, but not able to place remote sell orders.

It's possible the order was filled after you saw it, but before you accepted it. Or that the buyer changed his offer.

So is there a Bay12 corp?

Yes. Magma Forge. I don't know how many people are still in it. It doesn't really matter though, since the corp has no PoS, is based in Ordion which is the middle absolutely nowhere, and isn't really doing anything.

Whether or not you join the corp I'd suggest stopping by the chat channel, which is "Bay12 Eve". Many of us not in the corp hang out and chat there, and fleet ops have generally been "people of bay 12" rather than "people formally in the bay 12 corp."

Also, if you want to fleet up with bay12 players, I'd suggest posting here in advance. The chat channel rarely has more than 2-4 people, and we're not all based in the same region.

Cool, I'll drop by the channel some time. Are there any corps that cater for newbies still finding their feet?

The corp is pretty much dead. I applied for Dreddit, hoping I can get in.

EDIT: App was denied without reason. Oh well.

App was denied without reason. Oh well.

They have application requirements. They require confirmation of reddit membership of 45 days or more, your character API key, account creation for their authorization process on their website...a bunch of things.

I suspect it's a case of "if you can't follow instructions, we don't want you."

If your looking for a null sec corp you can apply to Grey Templars which is the one I'm currently in and we are part of CFC

Or join my combat main in Brave Newbies Inc. There is literally no requirement besides "apply".

It's a good corp to learn the ropes. You will find battles every hour of every day. You will get podded, a lot. You will get camped and insta-popped on undock if you aren't paying attention to intel. You will deal with 5+ wardecs constantly at a time where CONCORD will do nothing to help.

However, if you survive you will face carriers, battleships, snipers, and T3s within your first few days of EVE. You will learn to tackle and fight and die at an accelerated rate. You will join roving gangs of 30+ newbies and some bittervet Fleet Commanders leading everyone to glorious explosions and death. You will learn quickly how paper-rock-scissors works in EVE, that no one ship can stand alone on merit of it's own power, but it is the teamwork, tactics, and pilot skill which determines the winner of battles.

Admittedly, it is a terrible corp to make isk in. (Unless you ninja-salvage off battles) But frigs and dessies, and required roles like Logistics and EWAR are often reimbursed in our loss channels by generous benefactors and our FCs.

But hey, grab the experience and then move on. This isn't EVE-Uni, where someone will get pissed if you don't follow the "newbie rules", it's closer to RvB, where constant warfare breeds hilarious shenanigans. BNI is a bit like Goonswarm and TEST when they started out. We're like 50% clueless newbies (so we won't bash you for doing something utterly stupid) and 50% alts/bittervets here for the lulz. I'm just in the corp because I'm bored and it's hilarious. Never a dull moment, unlike my time in null. (Which did have many nice big battles though)

*It's not about the isk, what's your fun per hour rating?*

Also, CCP says this:
Quote from: some random BNI corpy
Before i restarted my account and joined you fine gentlemen i started up a trial account. It has sense been left to decay and CCP being the money lovers they are sent me a trial extension for my trial account trying to get me to activate it. In this email the first thing that pops up is this...

~Brave Newbies Have the Most Fun – Not only is that a universal statement, but Brave Newbies is an actual player corporation that has set out to collect all the people who always tried in vain and frustration to get to the “good” content while in reality all the best things were already right in front of them already. If that’s you, you might be a perfect fit for them.~

I think I will put my alt in Brave Newbies, I think that might be fun.

Currently she is training up all fleet support skills to 5.
