NQT:  If you're ambivalent about killing people how are you going to find scu- oh wait, wrong forum.

Impressions from a relative newbie:

Basically, do all the missions for the career agents first.  If you don't buy stuff from the market, you should end up with a few million ISK and a good handful of ships.  I don't *think* anything was too hard in those missions.

The tutorial missions that require you to lose a ship give you one to lose first.  Make sure you make that ship your active one before undocking.  Also, if you buy the maximum level of insurance for it before you blow it up as part of the mission, you'll make extra money.

Don't shop for skillbooks until you've done all the career missions.  You might get it for free from the tutorial/career missions.  When you do shop for skillbooks, look for the seller who has (I think) 555 to sell with a duration way over 90 days.  Those are NPC sellers, and you can get all of the basic, NPC provided skillbooks at that same station.  These will likely cost you an arm and a leg more if you buy them elsewhere.

1.0 - 0.5 = highsec = You *can* get killed, but your killer will be killed by NPC police very shortly thereafter.  And vice versa.  Usually you won't get attacked in highsec unless you're carrying cargo around worth billions of ISK.
0.4 - 0.1 = lowsec = You have a significantly higher chance of getting killed, and your killer will be accosted by the turrets around the warp gates.
0.0 = nullsec = Anything goes.  Anything.

After you finish the career missions, look up the "Sisters of EVE" mission arc.  That's what I did, and you shouldn't have much of a problem until you have to hunt down Dagan.

Bahaha, you had me worried for a moment there. Thanks for the advice.

EVE Fanfest 2013 keynote presentation:

http://www.twitch.tv/ccp/c/2208288

It shows the history of the company and what plans they have for the second decade.

Having interest in entrepreneurship myself, the fact that CCP ran out of money when developing EVE but still managed to pull it off is really inspiring. Their staff voluntarily worked for free when that happened and their endeavor eventually paid off. This reminds me of Zappos' success story.

Waaaiiit.

I've been playing DF since '04, been playing Eve since '06, and been on these forums quite alot, yet I've never heard of this thread? My life is now completer than it was... right now the only thing preventing me from being active on these forums again (I haven't been on for months) is the fact that being the CEO of a 40-man corp is pretty damn time consuming.

Last night in a chat channel I glanced and saw Tarn's name and nearly fainted. I would've gone to fanfest just for that. And to find out that Tarn actually plays eve... I started squeeing a bit.

I typically don't read 100 pages of threadnaught but strangely I'm kinda tempted.

I don't know... I heard somebody saying that Tarn plays, which surprised the absolute **** out of me. Would make much more sense if it was Zach.

Zach plays under the name of Threetoe, as for Tarn, we have no official confirmation. We know Threetoe's really who he is considering he posted in this thread here

Bay12 Eve is the chat channel, but unfortunately it seems as of late the participation is very small. I'm on on occasion, but unfortunately today I won't be on. Usually Rince is on, but other than him, Dratha and I, I haven't seen anyone on recently.

I'm usually on as Siobhan Macleary, but I've doing Fweddit stuff more often recently and I don't have that alt in the channel.

I still play. I'm just not playing 5 hours a day like I was a few weeks ago. I'd be happy to participate in fleet ops. If we want to get together, just post advance notice here and I can probably make it.

I am still playing, but in a different timezone. Would love to do mining ops on weekdays and L4 on weekends.

Digging's a lot like surgery, see -- you grab the sharp thing and then drive the sharp end of the sharp thing in as hard as you can and then stuff goes flying and then stuff falls out and then there's a big hole and you're done. I kinda wish there was more screaming, but rocks don't hurt so I guess it can't be helped.
