I would join too. Other options for corp fun:

Visit belts in an incursion site: Dangerous but clearing them is rewarded like clearing a scout site I think, so about 10 mil each.

Cruiser sized low sec hunt: I can buy everyone a cruiser, I just don't know the best fits for trying to either fight a gate camp or ambush mission runners or what ever else. Also not sure on fleet comp.

I'd be interested as long as we can set down a time at least a day in advance.

I am back!

And I am in as well. I might sponsor a price for the 3rd place as well. (not the 2nd one, if you make it to the final it is all or nothing :D)

I think Thrawn offered to FC a lowsec fleet. We should probably not use "our" lowsec though, as it is mostly empty. So better do some jumps and get somewhere where we have a better chance of exploding.

I will try and see if I get some standard cruiser fits for all the races and send a mail with them.

As I'm currently in exam period, I only have small windows of time during which I can guarantee to be available to organize something. One of these windows is Friday 26th (not this coming Friday, the one after that). I propose the frig tournament be held then. If that doesn't work for everyone who wants to participate, we might have to go with the other option of organizing the time for each fight individually, which might be less exciting that having everyone over at the same time, but still better than nothing.

My proposed rules for the tournament, open to modifications/additions:
- 10mill entrance fee per participant.
- 1st place takes all gathered entrance fees, 2nd place gets 20mill bounty on him from me (to go with the 'if you got that far, you better win!' idea), 3rd place possibly gets whatever Rince wants to give.
- Only T1 (non-faction) frigates
- Up to meta 4 equipment (if everyone participating can fit T2 equipment we might change this rule).
- All forms of warfare allowed (exceptions could be made if everyone wants to ban ECM or whatever, but I think the most fun is to be had if all is allowed)
- If we have many participants, we do the usual pairing-off for fights and whoever wins goes to the next level of the tournament, whoever loses drops out.
- If we have few participants, we could instead have a point-based system, where each person battles every other person once, and points are tallied for wins-losses per person, or some-such.
- If a participant warps out during a fight, the fight is considered a draw. Exact effect of this depends on which of the above systems we are using.
- We could also have a time limit, just in case the two combatants are perfectly evenly matched, or they run out of ammo, or whatever. Something like 20 minutes should be far more than enough. If the time limit is reached, it is again a draw.

I think that covers the main rules. Now for a few more things that are up-in-the-air, which I really need opinions on:
- Should participants need to stick to a single frig and fit for the tournament, or can they use whatever they want at each battle?
- Should participants need to declare what they are bringing to a battle, or can this be left as a surprise to the opponent?
- How would a battle start? Warp in at the same time to a safespot? Or be both present at the safespot at a certain distance and then the battle begins? Either could favor certain strategies over others...

My suggestions/thoughts:

I'd prefer to rule ECM modules out. Frigs have a very low sensor strength and if you are jammed all the time it is just not fun. ECM could still be allowed.

If you warp out you loose. Otherwise you could warp out just as you are about to pop. It would also open a medslot because you don't have to fit a point. (But you can still fit one, to shut down that MWD...)
Changing ships in between fights should be allowed. If you loose because you have a bad fitting and then are not allowed to change for another fight (if we go with a point based system) it would be rather bad. Also surprise your opponents (and be prepared for surprises).

Maybe someone could anchor a container somewhere in/around Ordion. Better yet, 2 containers. That would be the starting positions. Maybe 30km apart. It would be cool to have more ppl on grid, so you could lock the fighters and see them drop to structure and then explode gloriously. More involvement and fun. But not neccessary. Another idea would be to limit the engagement area. To maybe 100km radius.

I think in the first round everyone should have 2 chances, so you'll get at least 2 fights.
So winners move up to round two, and loosers battle each other and the winners get to round 2 again. But the exact methods would depend on the number of participants.

3rd place will get a navy cruiser of choice, unless we are too few participants, then it will be one or two navy frigates of choice.

Friday 26th

What time? We have people in all time zones. For example, 6am GMT would be convenient for me.

Quote
organizing the time for each fight individually

That would be far more convenient, yes, and would be less likely to exclude people due to any particular time being inconvenient in their time zone.

Quote
2nd place gets 20mill bounty on him from me

I advise against providing disincentive to participate.

Quote
Should participants need to stick to a single frig and fit for
the tournament, or can they use whatever they want at each battle?

If the former, how would you enforce it? Especially if each match is scheduled separately.

Quote
If a participant warps out during a fight, the fight is considered a draw.

...I'm ok with this, but I wonder if it might impose a stealth disadvantage to younger players who don't realize the implications.

Quote
Should participants need to declare what they are bringing
to a battle, or can this be left as a surprise to the opponent?

Surprise is more practical. Otherwise A announces, then B announces, then A wants to change.

I propose:

 * Place objects at an arbitrary distance from each other. Say...15km. Participants start at those objects, then use the Use standard in-game duel mechanic.
 * May as well allow pre-locking
 * Going to warp at all is considered forfeit. Consequently, no 150km warp-to tactics. Not that I have anything against such tactics, but it would provide a massive advantage to anyone who knows in advance where duels will take place over anyone who does not, and would also potentially allow anyone who knows what to do to stall a match forever against an opponent unprepared to counter it.
 * No podkilling
 * No abusing the 5 minute timer to get a second kill after the loser returns in a new ship. Once a match is over, it's over.

Okay, modifications to the rules up till now include:
- No ECM
- 2nd place will still be a 20mill bounty from me, because that really isn't a disincentive, you won't get targeted for so little money. Consider is a badge of shame/honor!
- Two cans will be set 30km apart at some point in Ordion, and these cans are the starting positions. The participants warp to there then use the duel mechanics to start the battle. Prelocking is allowed.
- Entering warp in any form once the battle has begun is considered forfeit.
- No podkilling, no opportunistic ship destruction once a battle is considered over.
- Non-participants are encouraged to view the battle on the same grid, and can lock participants to view their health, but must not interfere with the battle and should remain at least 30km from the starting positions and from the combatants to give room for the battle.
- Participants are free to not declare what they will be bringing to any battle, and can use different ships for each battle.

As for the time, the number of rounds and point system and all that, I will wait until there's a definite list of people participating. Everyone who wants to participate, please post here giving your INGAME name, and the time range (GMT please!) you're available on Friday the 26th.

Also, I've been asked to record the tournament, but I have never done any video recording... If someone could tell me of the simplest way to do so, or volunteer to do so themselves, it would be greatly appreciated.

Huh, if it's that much of a problem to you, then very well, the bounty is optional.

I will likely be out of the country (way out of the country) that day. But I'll contribute some prize money or a ship or something. Rince if you post or mail me some cruiser PVP setups, I'll pick them up in Amarr and drop them off at the entrance to low sec somewhere. I would assume that I'll be the warp to target and jammer for any roams we do as I have the covert ops ship.

Sedais will join as our booster. She is almost in her Drake.

20mil bounty is no more than icing on a cake, but whatever.

Rince Aumer - Should be available from around 17:00 on that friday. But as it is a friday, real life may come up.
