Why're you thinking of getting rid of those characters?

I am happy to adopt the characters you want to throw away.  :P

Because running 3 separate accounts was tiresome after a few years.

I am happy to adopt the characters you want to throw away.  :P
I'll be selling them, not throwing them away.

Ahhhh, you said characters, not accounts. I thought that might have been what you meant, but when you mentioned 2 of your 3 characters (bearing in mind a single account can have 3 chars) it just reinforced my assumption lol.

That makes sense. I've never maintained more than one account, I don't fully utilise all the chars on one account, much less more than that o.O

I would love to get back into EVE Online. That being said, I have no idea how to play the game properly, nor do I have any characters that are near the Amarr Empire (I think? I seem to recall playing an a Gallente) Luckily, I really don't have much on that character and he's not very well trained. Would it be possible to safely jump all the way to where you are from Gallente space?

Yup, as I'm currently in 'Empire Space' (so high-sec, basically) you should be able to jump over this way without much trouble at all. The only problem would be if you have very low standing with the Amarr Empire itself, as in below -5 effective rating. At that point, the Amarr Empire will actively attack your ship if you enter their territory (though generally it's easy enough to fly through it, as long as you don't linger).

You can check that on your standings page in your character sheet, but usually you'll know if you've done enough to get that low a standing. It's not easy, and takes focused grinding on certain missions usually. I would offer to save you the trip and journey up there, but my standing with the Gallente is -7. Needless to say, they enjoy shooting me when I show up.

There are a couple of others who've shown up in the B12 chat recently who're likely to be heading this way once they're done with their tutorial missions, so we should have a nice little group, though I'm looking for an area to base out of that will have a good spread of mission levels close by, to allow people to play solo if others aren't around.

Okay, I probably shouldn't have a problem with the Amarr Empire. Considering I've only ever done mining and shipping, I doubt I've ever entered into combat deliberately with them in any way.

However, as of right now I'm having a bit of difficulty recovering my EVE account. It's been literally 2 years since I last played the game, and I can't for the life of me remember my account name, strangely. When I try to recover my account's password, they're asking me for my character names. Which I cannot remember.

The GM I messaged in the petition is being unhelpful as well, as he's basically saying that I might be unable to recover the account without knowing my character's names. Which is stupid, considering I just mashed the random button until I found something that wasn't stupid.

Oh well, if I have to buy the game again, so be it. It's not more than 20 bucks, is it?

I don't believe it is more than that, though I'm surprised they are being unhelpful on this.

I recently had an issue where I couldn't remember some old accounts I'd once had, prior to creating the one I'm using (I had played the game on and off for years before I made this account), they asked for a few details, generally billing things and e-mail etc, and they then supplied a list of all of the accounts I'd ever made (including trial accounts)

20 dollars off of steam for the game. I swear I've never paid full price for it though when I played in the past, I was under the impression if you started with a trial you could just transition into paying monthly. Could be wrong though. 20 dollars includes 30 days of subscription though, so it's not a terrible cost.

Well, I already bought EVE and the two expacs available last April for 20 bucks, and I'd prefer not buying them again. At this point, I've provided everything except my character names and I'm getting a bit antsy. I haven't had a GM reply in 2 hours, though that reply was very obviously an automated response.

What is your ingame name Cernunnos? I'd be interested in getting back into this with one of my characters.

Just jump on the Bay12 Eve channel. I'm trying to make a point to be on there when I'm logged on.

I am interested in starting. Any pointers for beginners? I am completely new, never even read the wiki. Just happen to have a week off work so I thought good time to start.

Well the first bit of advice would be that, don't dismiss the tutorials. Historically the tutorials for Eve were pretty lacking, and there was no real reason to do them, but recently a fair bit of effort was put into them, to try and make the starting experience more fun and better set up new players for survival in the game. As such, you can get quite a lot of free gear, including ships.

They do take a bit to work through, and some areas may be less interesting to you than others, but it is probably worth the time spend, even for the career paths you'll likely not take, to complete the starting missions. If for no other reason than you can simply sell on the stuff they give you.

Any pointers for beginners?

Off the top of my head:

 * Do the tutorial missions. You can probably skip the research/production/planetstuff for now, but definitely do the combat missions. Not only will they explain what's going on, they'll give you I think 2 new ships and a couple skillbooks.
 * Keep skills training 24/7. Skills continue to train while you're offline. Skillbooks to unlock skills you don't have can be bought on the market.
 * Accept that sooner or later you WILL lose your ship. Many times. Maybe even daily. In fact, even during the tutorial you may get blown up a couple times. Don't get too attached, and any time you get into a ship that you would feel sad and not want to play anymore if it were to suddenly explode...insure it. No need to insure the very first ship you start with, but you'll probably want to be insured before the end of the tutorial by probably the second new ship they give you.
 * Probably avoid lowsec at least for the first few days until you're comfortable with combat. When you do, expect to probably die, so don't take anything irreplacable with you. But...don't get "scared" of lowsec. The majority of the game happens there. Death is cheap in Eve.
 * Missions will make more money than mining unless you have ships and training that you don't have yet. Don't worry about mining for your first few weeks unless it really fascinates you for some reason.
 * Be sure to understand how clones work. You probably don't need to worry about it for a while, but if/once your learned skills become greater than the minimum "free" level be sure to ALWAYS have a clone. It might take weeks or months to get to that point, I really don't remember. But once you do get to that point, keeping a current clone is pretty much the most important thing, because if you don't you can permanently lose real time invested into skill training.
 * Your life will be easier if you're within a dozen hops of Jita. It's the biggest trade hub in the galaxy. It's also sometimes laggy, so don't make it your home.
 * Read mission texts. Sometimes they want you to do things that are non-obvious. Sometimes you don't actually have to fight anything, sometimes you have to approach objects to trigger events, sometimes you need to not kill something, sometimes you'll be given a mission target that's of a certain object type that you might have placed in your target filter so you can't see it. In particular...there's an early tutorial mission that has you fly into an area and you'll immediately be bombarded by bad things that will kill you if you don't leave. You don't need to kill them. Just fly up then fly away and turn in the mission. Missions vary. Read them.
