Personally, I'm kind of happy being a carebear in High sec for now :D Once I start getting more income though, I'll probably look into joining you guys.. -HFS- is all but dead at the moment, but I'm sticking with them for now.

How do you find living in CVS space? Did you need to do anything specific before moving in, or did you just show up? :)

Well... we definitely didn't just show up; we contacted a CVA diplomat ahead of time to get ourselves set blue and asked where we could set up shop. They hand out access to The Citadel (the Providence intel channel) fairly freely, but don't give you access to P-fleet (for forming up defence fleets) until they trust you more. The way we became "trusted" was by tailing P-fleet on an op in an attempt to help them out, and being blown up by them instead. A dreadnaught pilot saw one of our stealth bombers decloak at the same time the enemy attacked (because they were attacking the enemy...) and he freaked out and blew up our CEO. One angry evemail later and we had p-fleet access and were reimbursed for our lost ships  :)

So yeah, I would get in contact with a CVA diplomat, or at least check out their website and see what they want you to do; my CEO did most of the legwork getting us set up so I'm not 100% what all the steps are.

...And then he messed with every members' role settings, so they couldn't leave the corp. ...

Okay, the rest is just everyday eve-stuffery, but this? I didn't know this was possible. I thought that you could always boot yourself back to the NPCorp...

You can, but you can't leave a corp instantly if you have roles. You have to remove the roles, wait 24 hours, then leave. So for 24 hours, the CEO gets 100% of your mission rewards and bounties. Wouldn't affect me; none of my income is taxable  :D

So this might be a long-shot, but are there any Aussies, Kiwis or other moontime dwellers around looking for a corp? Our recruitment thread is here:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=53994&find=unread

What we offer, more than the nullsec access or PVP roams or whatever, is freedom. No scheduled ops, no kill quotas, no requirement to log in every day / week / whatever. Just show up, do your thing, and get paid. We're based in Providence which is the only really "neutral" area of null as far as I know; neutrals are not shot on site... provided your corp isn't already KOS you can show up in CVA space any time and won't be shot at... not by CVA and allies at least. So even if you're not interested in my corp / alliance i'd urge you to consider giving providence a try. Once you've tasted the delicious ABC ores and faction rats you can find in null you'll never go back.

I am a late night person (like, 11pm-3am central time) and I'm getting interested in this whole EVE thing.  Do they still have the 21-day trial things (or something better)?

providence is horribly... you cant just hunt down non-blues... you have to go to the kos-checker site first to verify that theyre a pirate... well and then they blew up someone and already left...

still... its a good region to get used to 0.0 but its more dangerous than real 0.0 since neutrals arent KOS there

well... havent played eve for a few years now... so it mightve changed :D

If your alliance leader is on the ball you'll have most of the known reds marked as such. We also pretty much assume any npc-corp neutral is a cyno alt getting ready to drop a hotdrop on our heads and react accordingly... because they usually are. Our alliance's policy is "if in doubt, shoot, you can always reimburse them later". I am finding a shortage of things to shoot right now though; its very much dependant on finding people in prov or lowsec to fight. We can't just go on the offensive or we risk a "diplomatic incident" such as the one that lead to CVA losing providence the last time around...

Basically, CVA is not a "proper" nullsec alliance as most of the "hardcore" types that populate nullsec would put it. As nullsec alliances go, it is pretty small time, and has a much greater population of nullbears than hardcore PVPers. Basically, any of the major alliances could roll over CVA any time they like, and the only thing stopping them is that Providence lacks any tech moons; the real source of 0.0 isk. They survive by staying under the radar and not having anything worth taking; they've made major gains lately mainly because the opposition has been busy fighting over more valuable territory. That said, its only "crap" territory due to the lack of moons; for individual players who don't give a toss about moon-goo there's more than enough loot to go around.

Basically, prov is a great "training ground" for those getting into null, but hardcore PVPers or "pirates" should probably look elsewhere.

Also, you can get a 30-day trial here: http://eve.win-rar.com/

Of course, nobody gets a free plex if you do it that way.

Damn you people.  This is flat out the single most enjoyable game I have ever played.  I've never liked any other MMOs, but this sucked me in to subscribing before I'd even finished the tutorials.  Why the hell didn't someone PM me about this?  So many wasted years :'(

heh, I've heard about EVE online before, but I've never played due to not having any cash for sub games. I've heard though, that EVE is one of the few that allow for in-game stuff to buy a sub. How is this done and what does it cost?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

The ingame sub is called a "PLEX". You can buy the item for IRL cash ($15.00 CDN) or buy it off of the market (probably varies, but is a semi-solid estimate)  in game for about 450 000 000 ISK (in game currency). That's a lot of money for someone who is new, but eventually, you'll have plenty of ISK. When I started, I joined up with "EVE University"-a 1 500 member corp that's well known for teaching. It's a great starting point.

Oh wow, I didn't know that was possible.  How many hours (approx) would it take an experienced player to raise that much cash?

Start as Minmatar, and train a tech 2 shield fleet. That's how you can make serious ISK quickly running incursions. That's how I wish I would have started.

It depends a lot on what method you use. I hear that people flying incursions can make a hundred million an hour (sometimes more, sometimes less), likewise I know of people who earn over a billion a day through buying and selling, depending on the market and what they're trading in.

heh yeah, would it be possible for me to get that much before the trial runs out?

As above, it's possible, but generally much harder for a new character. In terms of active earnings, stuff that requires that you have certain skills / ships to perform whatever activity it is, then it can be hard to reach a level within the trial period that will be sufficient to earn enough for a P.L.E.X. each month. Passive avenues can be far less demanding on character skill levels, but significantly more demanding on assets, for example, trading. To make money through trading you tend to need money first (so you can buy expensive ships for low, and sell them high, thus earning a reasonable profit.)

My advice to people is generally: It IS possible to make enough ISK in the trial period... however, I don't think the work required and the dedication would really be all that fun. So I'd go into the game expecting to pay for a month or two's subscription at least, before you're self sufficient.

That's my opinion at least :)

Assuming that I had a great amount of free time, as well as lots of research and tutorials, could a n00b who's only played a couple of hours years ago do that buy a subscription with ingame moola thing in the X days allocated in the trial, assuming that I had a referral?

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.
