I don't mind spending 15€ a month on internet spaceships, really. You don't have to pay anything else, expansions are free.

Indeed. It is nice when you don't need to pay anything, of course, but in the grand scheme of things it's quiet a small price for a good game.

I know we will need to start our own thread or what ever soon, but I've got an agent mission I'd like help with tonight in Romi.

There are web and warp scrambling frigates. I should be able to knock them out of the air before they reach me, but incase I can't, some backup would be great.

Also there is some mining in there.

•The asteroid field yields - Veldspar (279K)

There is a follow up mission with evening more mining, but the rats are more dangerous.

•Pocket Entrance: (6) 90K Veldspar, (10) 25K Scordite, (8) 50K Omber

Anyone interested?

Sure. I'm debating between helping combat the rats and mining those rocks.

I suppose I could help combat, then warp back in with a miner crew.

I saw we sweep the rats, then warp back in with our miners/salvagers. After all that I'll turn in the missions. Not a bad idea to drop your miner off in Romi so the swap out is quick.

Well; it wouldn't be very profitable if one could become self-sustaining during the free trial; so I didn't think so.

Actualy, I'm almost getting wary of the Blockade Runner "release" system. It seems fair, but it almost seems a violation of my "buy it once, or not at all" ethic. :D

That sounds like the best idea for everyone. Kill the rats, then warp in a miner crew and strip the rocks.

No promises, but the GM of my old guild from years ago might be giving me her account. If so, that means we may be getting a stealth and jumpdrive capable pilot with a POS or two laying around unassembled.

Reading the comments section of that mission, it looks like some of the better ores may have been removed. Still might be worth it to mine.

No promises, but the GM of my old guild from years ago might be giving me her account. If so, that means we may be getting a stealth and jumpdrive capable pilot with a POS or two laying around unassembled.

Can anyone give me a push one way or the other? I'm torn between giving Eve another try, hopefully with the help of a decent corp (as mentioned earlier.) and knowing that every time I've tried it before, I felt that I just wasted another 15 dollars on what ultimately felt like a giant spreadsheet simulator.

I really give myself a 90% chance of falling back into the same old feeling within a month. Most of the rest within 2 months. I only really give myself a tiny, 1 or 2% chance of actually sticking with it for more than that, even if I found a good group.

It's tempting just to dive in, but whenever I actually stop and think about it, I feel like I"m making a mistake.

Certainly. But rather than shower you with empty words, how about tell us what sort of appeal would interest you. What would make you want to play?

Eve does have a lot of numbers, but it's also a game about blowing up spaceships with very pretty graphics. If you don't like spreadsheets but do like pretty scenery and blowing things up, it makes sense to focus on the pretty scenery and blow things up a lot. Or the social aspect. Lately when I've logged on we routinely have half a dozen people in our channel chatting away.

You can talk to b12ers, look at pretty scenery and blow things up. You don't have to focus on the spreadsheets.

Well, I'd prefer not to encourage someone to go against what feels right for them. If Eve feels wrong for you, then don't play. But if you're looking for positive reasons to play and fun things to do, they can be found.

Let us know what you want to be doing, and we'll try to help you find it.

To me WOW feels like a spreadsheet too, all MMO's are at heart.

Just think of it less as a spreadsheet and more like a game. Its how I got into it when I used to play, I was always "awesome, this railgun lets me kill faster, oh jeez, look at this, missiles!" instead of "right, to increase my DPS i need to...

I'd say you should avoid it if you can't think of it in any way aside from a spreadsheet. You'll just waste another fifteen

I'll just mention my most memorable and fun experience.

The most fun I've had with this game was several years ago, it might have been the first time I played it, or the second, I'm not sure.

I'd just joined a small-ish corp of about 20 or so people and we were just doing simple group mining, clearing out a belt. About a dozen of us total, I think. A couple of large mining ships. Maybe half a dozen smaller ones. A cargo ship that'd transport the minerals back to the station as they were mined and a couple of combat ships that hung around, popped in and out, but stayed in system, in case something came up.

Most of the mining was uneventful, but it was still fun just to sit around and talk with people while it was going on. One situation did come up, a couple of combat ships, destroyers, I think, jumped over to our belt and started messing with us. Never attacked us, but trash talked a bit and buzzed around us and our containers, I think to try to goad us into attacking. It wasn't 0.0 space, but it was pretty low, the lowest I had been in. I remember that was a bit fun, if nerve wracking.

I think the key there was the community. The feeling that we were working together and having someone there to just chat with while doing something so boring. I honestly didn't even stick with that group that long though. I think I might have played for about 2 months then.

The last couple times I played, once I mostly ran missions and hunted rats. The other time I tried out trading. Both of those got old quick, but I didn't really have anyone to do them with either. So... yeah.

sluissa, I think if you resubbed and joined the Bay12 corp - either one - you'd get that feeling of community that you want.

Yesterday, for example, Fikes/Thraw, Derzi, and I spent a good...what, two hours yapping over Ventrilo? Mind, it was because we were one battleship, one badly-fitted destroyer, and a frigate going up against a buncha highish 'rats. We only stopped when Fikes lost Internet.

As a corp, we're still getting up off the ground and figuring a few things out, but we do have the sense of community.
