Well is anyone still playing who wouldn't mind an alpha clone joining who hasn't played since 2015? Now it's free to play for the alpha tier I'm taking another look at it.

I played for several months as an Alpha. Haven't got back into the game, it got really kinda boring after my alliance moved out of wormhole space...and promptly turned defunct.

It got a bit wonky after they merged aurum and plex into one thing and split plex up. Since it is now used for multiple things I think people are perhaps buying more of it.

Also mega-traders (the kind that spend all day at the market and throw around trillions of ISK) love to play with the market, slowly raising prices as they please. I saw a screenshot from one person who singlehandedly traded 30% of the Jita plex market.

Well since nobody seemed interested I'm looking into setting up a pos somewhere in lowsec or in a wormhole to run some reactions for profit. I'll not be investing a great deal into it because they're apparently overhauling reactors this winter but I'm curious if I can earn enough to keep myself in Omega. I'm already pretty close to jump freighters so I'll finish that out.

Almost any passive form of making enough isk per month to cover omega will diminish over time due to the market at work. There will be people who will make hundreds of accounts to get as much isk as possible. If you remember a few months ago when ghost training was an issue, there were people bragging about having hundreds of accounts. I also remember one incident where there was someone multi-boxing 20 rorquals and when one got tackled all 20 lit a cyno at once revealing that they were botting. The main issue is the cost to haul things and the risk of lowsec groups blowing it up. But if your still interested this might help:

Understood, I don't have visions of becoming a trillionaire overnight or anything like that. I'm just curious if a modest effort can keep an account in Omega status or not. I have no intention of multiboxing dozens of accounts, that sounds too much like work.

That is a super handy link though, thanks!

Well, at a certain point in null-sec you certainly can. My industrial manufactuer/miner/Planetary Industry character usually rolls over about a billion a week with fairly casual playing. Once you have a rorqual you could easily get enough worth in ores to pay for a plex from a dedicated weekend of mining.

Personally I don't like mining enough to bother doing that, but it is certainly doable.

I know people can also make quite a lot of money running combat anomalies out in null-sec.

You might be able to manage it in high-sec, but it is tougher. Never tried low-sec, but i imagine it is in-between the two.

Wormholing is its own thing, of course. Pretty sure you can there, especially if you're doing drone stuff. Lots of demand for the parts for Excavator Mining Drones since they cost a billion apiece to make and are often targeted in raids between alliances.

Wormholes are epic for both money-making and security. You will occasionally get mildly wrecked by dedicated wormhole groups, but if you're careful you can make a lot of ISK at relatively low RISK.

Nullsec combat anomalies, I heard from my alliance mates, are also great.

I currently don't have access to null sec but as my plan was to buy material and react it for profit it doesn't matter that much where I do it. I might try to find a wormhole around to anchor inside.

Rule One of Wormholing: D-scan.

Rule Two of Wormholing: D-scan

Rule Three of Wormholing: Know where the entrances are. Know what's on the other side of said entrances.

Rule Four of Wormholing: For the love of PLEX, if you aren't going to be glad to lose it, don't fly it into an unscouted wormhole.

Rule INFINITY of Wormholing: D-SCAN YOU USELESS WASTE OF PROCESSED OXYGEN!

Keep your eyes open and know where all the exits are. Otherwise you will get stranded.

Yeah I'm not super familiar with wormhole-ing but it seems better than hanging my ass out of nullsec's window without a corp.

So, Dscan and *scout first* followed by watching your Dscanner and keeping your eye on the list of signatures. Always know what states wormholes are in. If it's just fine but at first shrink (If you don't know the terminology, STAY OUT OF THE WH and go look up Uniwiki), then scout the other side too.

If a wormhole that *should* still be around vanishes, get to a safe spot and keep dscanning. Preferably do this sort of thing with friends, and remember that escaping is always better when you have a spot in deep space from which you can Dscan the exit wormhole BEFORE jumping there.

And always have a bookmark before you warp away.

Always.

ALWAYS.
I can't tell you how many times I've done it to myself and gone "Well crap please help me, guys"

I used to do exploration in WHs and you should always have a safe spot as well as your important bookmarks.

An old WH or site is ideal.

Sounding like I need a scouting buddy. I'll see if I can find someone else interested in the endeavor, or a corp to join to lern me some wormhole
