Gonna have to see if I can fly my old dude outta whitespace using the tech they allow.  If I can I'll probably be dicking about in one of the hundreds of rifters I have scattered around the universe

Just a heads up, it's my understanding that the FTP release was set back to the 15th.

Indeed they did...

Anyone with plans to kick the tires again after Clone States releases?  If you've ever played previously (even just a trial with no sub) and you can remember enough to log in or recover your account, it's highly likely your old toons are waiting for you.

I loved EVE when I could play, but ran out of money/time at different parts and haven't been able to for a while.  I will 100% be checking out the free dynamics.

So should i make new toon to play free now or when the update is launched on 15th?
This sounds pretty fun to free players and mostlikely bring some new boost to low level corps alike :)

You can definitely start a toon now, and play through to the proper release.  I've been training up a strategic unaligned alt, and using this reddit comment's list as a compass for training skills that I won't lose access to later.  The list takes into account all known changes to the Alpha skill list, up to and including CSM minutes.

Now i cant decide what race to choose.
I wonder if Bay12 will be putting up Corp we could join and play together?
I understand you can use only race specific ships on Alpha?

I've been pondering the Dorf-Corp idea...  I'm open to it, but I wasn't going to stump for it until Clone States is released and we see who actually jumps in or returns.

Yup, only race specific ships.  They all have hulls that fill similar roles; differences between then are negligible at lower levels.  Don't worry about it overly much, just go with whoever seems cool to you thematically.

The racial hull limitation serves a couple purposes.  Firstly, it cuts down choice in a game with a lot going on; this is actually important for easing new people in.  Secondly, it prevents alphas from flying pirate faction hulls (which need two race's ship skills to sit); this is to curtail obvious potential abuses.

Amarr ships are usually armor tanked and often use lasers (em/thermal damage), though there are some ships that use drones and/or missiles (drones and missiles get choice of damage type). Some of their ships get bonuses to tracking disruption (makes it more difficult for enemies to hit their target) and energy neutralization (go after their energy capacitor).

Caldari ships are usually shield tanked and use either missiles or hybrid guns (kinetic/thermal damage). Caldari have some ships bonused to target jamming (chance of breaking target lock).

Gallente ships are usually armor tanked (though one can sometimes get away with shield tanks on gal) and use either drones or hybrid guns. Gallente's EWAR specialty is sensor dampening, which can reduce a target's lock-on range and/or time it takes to lock on.

The Minmatar ship line has both shield and armor oriented ships and use either projectile guns (damage type selection) or missiles. Minmatar have some ships bonused to target painting, which makes it easier for ships to apply damage to smaller targets.

Caldari with missiles would be easy on PVE but donīt think it would be good choice for PVP.
Never played Amarr so that would be once choice.
Gallente would be nice for the drones but...
Think i weight in between Caldari and Amarr?

One thing to note about amarr frigs/dessies is they don't have many mid slots (often only 2), so one often has to eschew a web.

I unfortunately already have a corp, but I would appreciate being able to talk in a common channel (eg, my corp coalition has three wings and a single private channel for people from all three corps to talk in) for bay12ers. Also if you're going to be in dangerous space like WH or null or low, being set blue would be nice too :P

Yeah, I had you chalked up as "known subber" already, Sky.  A common channel for dorfs is a good idea, though.
