most prefer the 3 step method:

1 get a destroyer
2 grow balls.
3 blow stuff up.

note that step one and two are interchangeable. dont interchange with step 3 tho, it wont work.

I blew up some miners today.  Nobody mines on my turf, not even me.  Especially not me.

*Sigh* This is what makes me want to play it again, but instead be a pirate and blow people up. :P

How would I get into that?

A good starting point would be to buy twenty frigates or destroyers (something speedy and geared towards close range combat would be ideal.  I like Cormorants for this, but many would disagree.), fit them identically, and then lose them all in lowsec.  By the end of that you'll have a pretty decent idea of exactly what those ships are capable of and how to get the best out of them.  Fair warning though, PvP is a way of losing isk rather than gaining it.  Until you git gud.

yeah, tho fw piracy beats fw income whise, fw is a great place to learn get going with solo pvp.

that said:
to blow up some miners you dont need to be a good pvp pilot. you just need to know some basic game mecanics, and somewhat decent skills to fit and fly a destroyer.
minerbumping.com will provide you with all the information needed to become a tool in their army.

I learnt the most important lesson for PvP in Red Vs Blue:

Each ship is a piece of ammo.  Each ship is an opportunity for an interesting fight.  The fight can be interesting, and you don't need to win it.*

RvB have contracts for 5 t1 fit frigates for 2-5 million ISK.  For that sort of money you can just throw them into fights until you get over the idea of losing a ship.  You can go solo, or join the frequent fleets.  Nobody is expecting you to be any good, so no one cares if you lose ships by the dozen. Which you can at that price.

I spent a month there, before returning to Low Sec as a pirate.

*Though winning is fun.**

**Equally thinking back to losses, to how you could have flown and won, then using that later on is great.

it works extremely well in packs , it wont work solo. 1:1 you have to be very lucky beat a t2 fitted frig with a t1 fitted derpfrig - it will only work if you can dictate the range, and stay out of the enemy weapon range.

pirates usually use a very different approach. they fly very expensive, and hate to loose their ships. also tho its fun, you need a lot of sp to fit in with them (thrust me, you dont want to be the guy in the 14m kittechensink brawler cruiser while everybody around you sits in ishtars). having a gang link alt on a secondary account is highly recomended in this envoirement.

so, id say: go to lowsec, but rather join the army. that will get you the fights you are looking for, and provide you with the income to buy your "ammo".
skills whise, for this you want to be as good as it gets with anything that fits small weapons. t1F > Dessi > AF >  Bombers (if you want to do missions, else skip) > EAF > inties > interdictors would be the progression i suggest.

In my experience a well fit T1 frig flown by someone who can take advantage of transversal velocity can take down a battle/crusier or disengage and GTFO in time about four times out of ten.  Pretty good odds considering the difference in cost.

You can also make a killing from sitting in lowsec tunnel's relic sites in a destroyer and blasting all the ickle herons.

there are many absurde fits flying around, piloted by players that dont realy know what they are doing.
yeah, you can kill such a cruiser with a frigate.
competent t1 frig vs competent t1 cruser tho...
would not bet on the frigate.
but sure, if you are lucky enough to find a blaster moa with your kiter tristan in a spot with no gate guns... that just may be your day of glory.

Well I pirate in lowsec in a T2 fit T1 frig, solo, and without alts, implants or boosters.  Get a fair few good fights too.  YMMV or course.

My point about the T1 cheap fit frigates was not that they were any good, more that you need to learn to lose ships regularly.  It was an emotional thing for me to get over.  I don't intend to make any money pirating, just have some fun, and that means diving into fights I might not win.  Yeah I lose a lot of ships, but I also get some great fights.  The biggest thing holding me back from having fun when I first went into low sec was the fear of losing ships.  I was telling myself to be brave, but could spend 2 hours roaming, trying to find a fight against a pilot who was: solo, in a T1 frig, had no mates in local, etc.  and log off with nothing.  In RvB I could join a fleet in a T1 fit frig, dive into a fight, shoot some stuff, get blapped and reship, and do this five times in about 15 mins!  All the while having a blast.

Since moving back to low sec Ive taken an Atron up against faction cruisers just to see what happens.  What happens if it is Vexor Navy Issue is that you get blown up.  Equally Ive taken T1 frigs up against Destoyers, and killed them.  I've dived solo into plexes occupied by two frigs, and got blapped.  Equally often they just cut and run, and occasionally, just occasionally, you take both out.  Which is a great feeling.

But I would never have done that before.

Would the Blaster Moa not just web and blap your drones?

Id take on a Blaster Moa in a Blaster AB Atron, and hope to take his drones down quickly while under his guns.  Dunno if I could beat the shield tank recharge rate, or even whether Id have enough ammo, since I'm a bit cheap that way.

Could someone with a subscription send me an invite? The recall program allows for seven days free trialing, and if I subscribe (I will, I think!) you'll get rewards. Yay, everyone wins! (except the global proletariat who is ever trodden on by the capitalist system...)

EDIT: Oh. The program is not online anymore!? Well, shit! Then I have a proposition to make, but it will involve some trust. Buy me a subscription and I'll give you a copy of Iron Brigade (good game and worth some 14€ or so), and I'll get you a PLEX later. >_>

Sorry, cooper. If it helps, I gave him the 30 day starter account thing from the humble bundle rather than a referral trial account- it means he'll get a bunch more than he would've from a referral key.
