No, the drones won't be enough I think.
I went out with bay 12 into a lowsec hidden belt and an incursus couldn't break the the tank of some of the ships. Normal belts are probably easier, but 5 t1 drones won't be able to kill a bs before it can break your tank.

How often do the null rats bring along scramblers?

I've only been scrambled a couple times. Even with multiple jumps from a gate that had a as many as 5 rats on it. That was in system though and not anoms. Its pretty rare. If you have an expensive ship that can't fight a few nullsec rats easily you may want to worry. They may have 3 or more points of scramble though if they have any.

The beltrats don't scramble that often, iirc. Been a while since I've been there. Gaterats are not a problem.

if youre in a friggate, the bs rats should not be your problem as they wont be able to hit you if you orbit close enough.

ahhh ok :)
yeah, bad idea to start with in my book.
if you want to mine, do it highsec or deep within your allies sov space.
in lowsec its just not worth the trouble watching d-scan all the time. also barges align slow and have a large signature... anything with decent warp speed will land and lock before you can get away.
not worth the trouble, its not that much better isk then in highsec anyway.

Personally I would advise you avoid mining completely but particularly in lowsec. The moneys just no good unless you are in Null and even then pretty shit.

Mining is good for afk in hisec or for industry in nullsec. Low is a dumb place to mine though. Plus multibox mining in sov space in nullsec is actually fun for a certain kinda person.

Well, I re-subbed. I am considering doing something interesting like getting a WH POS up or finally joining a null corp, but right now I am just focused on helping a real life friend learn the basics.

Things have changed and it is going to take time to re-learn them.

join faction warefare with your friend.
he can be usefull and have a lot of fun even with very few skillpoints, and you will prevent that he becomes yet another risc adverse carebear.
after 2 month or so you can always leave, but he will know his ways in low and how to kill stuff thats not just a red chross without brains.

I have considered faction warfare, but I am already in really bad shape with the Minmatar (-3.08). Also, he is Galentee and I am Amarr.

it doesnt matter with race you are. you just need a standing of 0.0 if you want to join a npc fw corporation. if you join a player corporatoin, you dont need any standing.
your standing wont take noticable hits untill you do faction warefare missions. tho they are lucrative, the real pvp fun is elsewher.
im in gallente fw. they are allied with minmatar. if you write me an evemail, well get you both into our alliance.

Well Thrawn is back in action. I jumped right back into incursions and made enough in two days to buy a plex so I reactivated Sedais. This time I am going to use her to go play faction Warfare with my friend.
