Need a zero impact anti virus for windows 7
« on: March 16, 2011, 11:04:33 pm »

Ya. Pretty sure I got a virus of some kind. google is inaccessible from my computer, lots of crap on the internet does not work, especially the websites and update points for anti-virus software. So it needs to be something I can fully download on my phone and then install it. But I don't want it to crap up my computer like norton or symantic.

Ad aware will not run, already tried that.

Any suggestions?

I may end up having to nuke the whole thing and reinstall from scratch.

Tried Malwarebytes?

It's what I used the first and only time my computer bombed itself.

I highly recommend malware bytes (it's free too) for just cleaning up your computer, it not really an anti virus though.

ZoneAlarm has proved to be a useful antivirus for me, perhaps look into that later, defiantly run MB first though.

Microsoft Security Essentials: hasn't failed me yet but expect lag spikes when you're working on something >_>

AVG: My IT friend still hangs behind AVG though i always thought it sucked.

Unfortunately I am screwed. My computer wont detect my phone as a storage device.

The only unusual thing I did was buy some mp3s off of amazon.

Can't you use an usb drive?

Android phones can not yet act as a usb host, so I can't copy files I download on my phone to a usb drive.

Go the library, use one of their computers to get what you need, stick it on a normal flash drive?

I've resurrected an ancient laptop to help. And malwarebytes didn't find the problem.

It might be a good idea to use Rkill to take down the virus before installing anything, lest it infect your antivirus.

I'm also voting for Microsoft's wossname Shmecurity Existencials... it's very lightweight and doesn't pop up every 5 seconds to say "buy me buy me, you got a new virus, FEAAAARRRR!!!"
