As a standard question to the GM, as i'm sure others are also wondering: Does my possession of tech count towards the Public Domain count of 5?

No.  You're exempt from that rule as you're not a full player faction.  It is assumed (for the sake of fluff) that a scattered handful of scholars, tradesmen and the like wander around with your mercenary band, keeping that sort of information safe for your use.  Or maybe even you just have a chest full of useful scrolls.  The critical aspect is that the knowledge is not widespread in a population and thus not able to seep into the public domain.

Bare crunch of turns done, plenty of fluffing out to do.  Still need Brent & Grouting's turns.

May not get your turn 'til Friday, as uncertain of net connection at hostel tonight and in any case I am very unlikely to be online at all tomorrow (even if I don't make it to the second round of the day's auditions, I'm still going to want to explore Glasgow a bit).

@Iituem: I would assume scrolls and books. A roving band of scholars, by definition, would be 'researching' by constant discussion. By scrolls are easier to sell than the contents of brains.
