Well, charging a disorderly mob of barely trained soldiers againist an army full of experianced soldiers, powerful war weapons, and a great defensive position is a quick way to get killed. This applies to almost any situation, only overruled when you have a force all so much larger then theirs, and your most likely lose a lot of people, so it'd end up being a pyrrhic victory.
