mule has gone stark raving mad!
« on: November 19, 2007, 11:31:00 am »

This hilarious line comes from a fortress I'm currently playing. Normally animals can't go insane, but apparently, given the right conditions, trader mules can.

The mule and his mad elf owner come are leftover from an elven caravan that left after not being provided a trade depot to unload in. Both seem to have their AIs deactivated, as they're just standing still there.

The offending game's version is 0.27.169.33b. The save file was recently carried over from 33a, but the caravan arrived and left in the new version. I'm unsure whether this was caused by version migration, but nonetheless...

This is related to the Traders Not Leaving bug: http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001981

When the Mule's owner goes mad, so does the Mule (although not necessarily in the same way - I recently had a Mule go berserk and slaughter an entire Caravan's worth of Traders, who had all gone Melancholy. That mule was truly bad-ass - it disarmed and knocked out an NPC Dwarven Guard!).
