CIV 6 is really great, has most of good things from CIV 5 and expansions with a few changes here and there not to the point of crazy like Beyond Earth. I do like the new city district system.

The AI is very bad in Civ 6. That's the biggest complaint I have with the game.

Outside of that I found the diplomacy to be rather irritating. It felt like I was dealing with a group deranged toddlers instead of world leaders.

It's probably the AI.

If the AI wasn't so goddamn terrible, it'd be much easier to recommend.

But I agree I think it's easily the best Civ game ever, provided the AI gets fixed. Also you can easily mod the other funky balance stuff like the ocean tiles being useless and navies being terrible. Just a simple notepad fix.

Infested Planet is on a pretty big sale, at $5 right now. I go back to it pretty regularly, 'cause it's just such a neat tactical experience. The planetary campaign is also a pretty great add-on, but the base game has a bunch of content already.

Seconded. The story and characters are utter shite, but the gameplay is stellar. It's a lot like Creeper World 3 in that respect.

I'd third that. You can also check out attack of the paper zombies if you want to see the precursor and check out some (much less impressive, but decent enough) gameplay that's pretty close to infested planet. Not entirely sure if it's still somewhere on the dev's site or not, though.

... also yeah, the story might as well not be there. It's, like. Movie Starship Troopers tier or somethin'. You can mostly ignore it. Pretty sure I keep forgetting it actually exists, tbh. Game's fun enough it doesn't matter.
