I've been thinking of buying Dreamfall Chapters for the longest time now, but the Steam reviews keep putting me off. They're also extremely confusing - the game currently has 84% positive reviews, but each time I check, the top ones are almost universally negative.

Played the original "the longest journey" and found it a confusing half-baked mess (glowing reviews though). After that I was not keen in giving a shot to any of the sequels.

That's Advanture games in general.
I'm kinda suprised this genre is faring as well as it is because all i remember of it is loads of unintuitive puzzles you pass only by blind luck of a walkthrough set up on your lap.

Anyone who actually liked the previous two instalments willing to express their opinion on how Dreamfall Chapters fares? Or on what's with the discrepancy between the good overall rating and seemingly dominant negative reviews on Steam?

I'm in the same boat as you. I played and liked the original, The Longest Journey, but got sidetracked by other games early in Dreamfall and didn't go back for years. I suppose I should finish Dreamfall first.

Duke Nukem titles* are leaving GOG and they're 75% off individually or 90% off for the whole bundle for the remainder of the year:

Cortex Command is on sale for $3.99. The game is an entertaining sandbox of gibs and explosions and honestly I haven't seen it cheaper than $20 since the pre-release deal years ago. Its still updated by the developers on occasion, as in actual solid updates with content not just bugfixes or balance patches.

downside? local multiplayer only, and the "active modding community" died a few years ago so a lot of the older mods simply crash or lag the game to heck when used. Despite this the game is still fun. At full price you could do a lot worse, on sale its actually a pretty good deal.

Don't know what you're talking about, I have mods up the wazoo from the Workshop installed, and it plays fine. I have everything from the Galactic Empire, to Ultramarines, to Undead Space Nazis duking it out on the same battlefields.

There's been much, much more. Workshop is just uploads of the mods still updating, uploads of mods updated by a third party, or useless lazy goddamn army recolors.

Most of the 'more' that I remember was usually buggy and/or slow even back when regularly updated.

If you didn't buy enough during all of the fall/winter sales and you desire a boatload of games from a publisher of hit-or-miss games, I've got just the thing for you.

Groupees has a bit of a checkered past as far as "I want this" goes but this is the first that somewhat interested me. Right now they're selling a bunch of stuff from 1C Company. $2 or $3 USD depending on which tier you want.
