Oh, you meant early access in particular. I was making a (not by name) allusion to the new Batman game, which performs terribly for pretty much everyone. But hey they're a AAA studio that can push for massive pre-orders so I guess quality isn't as much of a concern.

A random question, what is with gamers being obsessed with FPS? As someone who had stop-motion as a hobby for a while, I'm used to 15 FPS being the norm, with 24 FPS being something that was good if you could pull it off without it looking too weird and had the time for it. In fact there were some people who were pretty elitist about using 24 FPS. I suppose video games need to be smoother than films or animation, but how much of a difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS is there and how much does it actually make a difference in games? Does it matter more for certain genres or what?

Fighting games are another genre that pretty much require 60fps.

I remember I tried the demo for the JoJo fighting game back when it came out, and it felt like garbage. Everything felt stiff and unresponsive, the inputs were hard to do right, and all my timings were off; later I found out the game ran at 30fps, and that was why.
Basically, for anything that requires reflexes within a 1-5 frame range 30fps can feel pretty bad, it'll feel like your inputs aren't registering correctly (which quickly becomes frustrating).

Yeah, the only thing worse than 30 FPS for shooters is fluctuating FPS.

Fun fact: if you think of the publishing company rather than early access when you see "EA", almost everything you guys are writing still makes sense. :D

EDIT: Borderlands bundle on Humble. What's the difference between 1 and 2? As someone who doesn't usually play shooters and would just be using it for stress relief, will the first game suffice or should I grab them both?

BL2 is just an incrementally better game with more content, so I'd say just get BL1, since you may not like it (and BL2 is extremely similar). If you do like the first, you can always buy it on sale for $5 later anyway, the same cost as the bundle.

I know the discussion is pretty much over, but I can almost immediately tell the difference between a 30/24fps and 60fps youtube video. While watching 60fps video isn't 100% essential it feels nicer for me to watch, anyway, though that might just be because I'm used to playing games at 60fps. So basically I'm just saying what i2amroy said about adrenaline somehow making you perceive 60fps better is kinda... not the case, it's more just what you're used to. For example, a lot of people didn't like how that one movie (I believe it was The Hobbit? I've never seen it myself) was 60fps and said it felt weird to watch. I imagine most of those people are used to watching films at 24/30fps at most.

A lot of times 30fps feels just fine because of how much motion blur is occuring, whether it be film or console games.

...

Anyways, I was expecting that ARK game to be on sale for a bit longer than the summer sale (I thought it said 'offer ends the 22nd" or something) but that's not the case. Oh well.

Borderlands 2 is better in... preeetty much every aspect I can imagine... though I've only beaten each of them once. Pretty sure the mouse handles a bit better in 2 as well (I think you can disable mouse acceleration or something, I forget, I just remember it being more natural).

I think Borderlands 2 feels a lot more complete then the first one. Borderlands 1 to me felt like areas were rather empty or there was plans for more things then there ended up being in the end game.

They're both quite playable but I do think Borderlands 2 is the better out of the two.

Yeah the only praise I have of Borderlands 1 is that it's a great game I played way too much, because it was fun.
Ever since I played Borderlands 2 I can't stand that crap, it looks and feels horrible and incomplete.

Borderlands 2 is just better in gameplay, music, story, everything.  Like Diablo 2 after Diablo 1.  Yeah my friends and I played a lot of Diablo 1, but there's no little reason to launch it again other than acute nostalgia.

Even though the list of abilities is different (in BL1 and Diablo1) the interface and pacing is so much worse that it's not worth it.

Though BL2 is a bit better story-wise if you've played BL1 I guess...  Not that it's necessary to understand it, but characters come back and that was kind of awesome.

@BL, I find that spending more then 2 minutes shooting at the same guy not fun.  Especially when they are not bosses.  At least that is my latest memory of the series.

A lot of people find BL1 and 2 basically like a single player MMO. It's not very crunchy as an RPG, nor detailed in the ways you might expect from games like Skyrim. So take that for what you will. It's fun, surely, and has the gun porn to keep you playing. Its legs do run out though.

Not that it needs to be single player.  It's clearly intended for 2-4 players, particularly the second game where some of the powers are particularly good for team play (Maya's ability to freeze and stumble large numbers of enemies, particularly).  But I had plenty of fun as Zer0 single player.  It becomes a slog at higher levels though (talking Newgame++), especially in solo play.

I wouldn't recommend Borderlands unless you play with friends, but even then I didn't liked it that much.

I recommend Borderlands 2 and on just for the dialog.  Loved it.

Borderlands 1 didn't really do it for me, and I think the dialog was the main reason as the mechanics are pretty much exactly the same.
