If you don't know how to set up a Virtual Machine, there's nothing like an older game to get you to learn ;)

Green Man Gaming have their summer sale equivalent running for about a week now.
Today's specials are WB games and Ubisoft games, probably worth taking a look as many games from both developers are cheap.

Indie Game: The Movie: The Game Bundle is on sale on Steam for 75% off. Bundle includes the movie, movie dlc, FEZ, Braid, and Super Meat Boy, all of which are also on sale individually at 75% off. Alternatively, you could get the whole $40 value bundle for $9.99.

GamersGate seems to have something resembling a summer sale as well. Here's a few personal picks I may or may not get after some research:
Alpha Protocol
Binary Domain
The Cave
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2 Complete (does not include mini DLCs)
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine

Most seem a bit flawed in one way or another, but I like my diamonds a bit rough at times.

Alpha Protocol is really fun and... I actually never encountered any of the alleged bugs all the reviews would claim happened back when it was released (I had one, but it was on an, uh, 'demo' - I got stuck in empty space with the save bugged out, but again, 'demo'.), and it has a ton of replayability - not only there are several endings, but there are several ways to play the character, several builds including two special ones you unlock after beating the game, and a ton of different ways things may happen depending on your decisions.

That seems worth buying... But I'm not sure if it'll run on my stupid overheating computer. Maybe I'll grab it anyway and save it for when I manage to get a new machine...

GTA4 complete is $6 on Steam right now.

On the one hand, GTA for cheap. On the other, GFWL and Rockstar Club.

What are GFWL and Rockstar Club?

Rockstar Games Social Club is some kind of online community for their games.

Games for Windows Live is Microsoft's dying/dead version of Steam (gross oversimplification). It supposedly shut down last year, but I haven't started up a game that requires it in a while. Many developers said they don't care, so lots of old games will forevermore require a nonexistent platform. It's also not available in all countries.

Ah, so the issue is that multiplayer might not be available? I wasn't planning to play multiplayer anyway, so fortunately that's not an issue for me.

Still, I do look back fondly on the days of directly connecting to a friend's IP address and not having to worry about external services not shutting down.

GFWL isn't dead yet, it's supposed to shut down this July. So, it's soon to be dead, but not yet.

Some games had all their save games online. Single and multiplayer saves. You couldn't save at all without being online.

Do you need to be connected to the internet to play GTA 4? If not, I'll grab it. If so, I won't.
