crazy stuff

Apparently Jim Sterling is writing games now. Joking aside I did enjoy Electronic Super Joy quite a lot. Good soundtrack and pacing with a decent sense of humour. Never did bother get past that level where it flips 90 degrees though.

Should I get CIV V without the DLC on the gamersgate deal or get the CIV IV complete edition for the same price?

Do both of them have an active online community or maybe I should just wait for a complete edition of CIV V on discount?

God DAMN I love this game!

Just a note if you are thinking of picking up Civ IV, the recent update to move the multiplayer connectivity from the now-dead gamespy over to steamworks has removed the direct ip connection option which has apparently broken a few things that relied on it.

Some guys are giving away GMod codes for steam apparently, does it count?

Nevermind there's a survey to take. That will teach me.
It makes you download what seems to be a text file, presumably with the codes on it.

Steam has Stardock weekend. GalCiv 2, Fallen Enchantress and Sins of a Solar Empire along with their DLC's at a decent discount. Also a few other titles that say nothing to me.

Wasnt Fallen Enchantress that Master of Magic clone?

Didn't it get awful reviews, and the developer ended up badmouthing the fans, and a bunch of other crazy nonsense?

Elemental: War of Magic may be what you're thinking of.  Fallen Enchantress was a sequel/remake, but it generally got better reviews and is considered to have continually improved with patches and dlc to the point that the current incarnation is a favourite among some (many?) 4x players.

Yeah. Elemental was garbage, to the point that the developer gave all of the early adopters of Elemental Fallen Enchantress for free as a Apology. I like Fallen Enchantress, it's fun. It's not a true replacement for MoM in my opinion, but it is fun.

The game on sale is actually Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, which is an improvement on Fallen Enchantress. Which itself was an improvement on Elemental. Based on an RPS article I read it sounds like they made something worth while third time around.

As a kid I helped beta-test their OS/2 games including the REAL Galciv 1 and 2, Trials of Battle, and some other great games that have died in obscurity.  Brad Wardell did dev-commentaries back then, too.  He particularly took a lot of pride in the AI work, in an age where TBS AIs were universally moronic and cheated like crazy on any difficulty above normal.  Some things never change :P

I lost touch when they moved to Windows, except for Entrepreneur (which is now, what, The Corporate Machine?).  I don't know anything about the Elemental fiasco, or even whether the new Galcivs are much good.  I just remember that in the time of Civilizations and Master of Orion, they made a far better TBS for a dying platform.

I did play Sins of a Solar Empire and had fun with it, it's very pretty and the interface is good for a RTS with that kind of scale.  I tried Galciv 1 (Windows) but it wasn't innovative, just good, so I dropped it for Alpha Centauri's unique TBS mechanics and setting.

Age of Wonders Shadow Magic is my go-to Master of Magic remake.  I hear AoW2 has small HoM&M-style battles, kinda like Fallen Enchantress from what I can tell.

Not only did Steam add Freespace 2 into their library today but they also put it on sale for 5€. This makes me happy.

Isn't that the freespace with the opensource project related to it?
